How can I get an outdoor cat to use the house I've made?
Comments (36)Lots of things you can do. We have a small feral colony that we've fed and sheltered for a while now. We have a Shed In The Box, with interior smaller shelters inside there..and a five feet by 8 feet kennel that is tarped off for winter that has shelters up off the ground...however, when our ferals got caught a few weeks ago in our first very deep winter storm, they all ran scared and frightened up onto our back porch. So, we prayed and asked the Lord for his Guidance and Wisdom and he helped us. We got tarps and heavy duty shower curtains and heavy duty tension rods and paneled off the back porch...then, we put vinyl and rubber mats along the floor of the back porch. Then, we added cat igloos, and made other shelters out of Sterlite plastic chests...and made an interior tent over those shelters with a camoflauged tarp. When the temps dropped below freezing, we cracked the back door from the kitchen to let heat go out into the now enclosed back porch area...made a tremendous difference. Right now, it's sleeting and we are letting them come into the kitchen to get extra warmth, and we have litter boxes and fresh water in a corner of the porch as well. As someone has already mentioned, shoeboxes, cardboard boxes, cutout coolers with straw in them....cat igloos...we put yoga mats covered with soft cardboard in ours. The main things, give them a break from the wind, give them warm shelter, food, water, and a feeling of security...you're good to go. The more love you put into it, the better your results, you know. Good luck and God Bless. FYI, we also do trap n release and we are seniors in our late sixties, so if "we" can do it, so can anyone else, you know....See MoreDo you Roll or Fold your Socks?
Comments (33)I lay mine flat in pairs and stack them by color in a drawer. I fold DH's in half and place them vertically in a drawer. (He uses them left to right.) I'm curious now about underwear...I fold my panties in half and half again and stack them in a drawer; bras are folded and stacked too. I fold DH's undershirts the way they are folded when you buy them and stack them in a drawer; he uses from the top. I fold his shorts and stack them too. OK, so now...how many of each thing do you have? I remember a survey of men in the UK where the average guy reported having three sets of undershorts: One on, one in the wash, and one clean. I thought that was odd. DH has over a dozen of everything. (They must wash more often, and small loads or by hand. By hand? Ick!)...See MoreDo you have portable folding spectator chairs?
Comments (6)We have used one a lot over the years going to many soccer games. We usually sit on the sidelines, preferring that or having no choice 9 times out of 10, to sitting in the bleachers. We also use them for outdoor summer concerts. My criteria are these: must be lightweight for carrying, mesh or something cool rather than heavy canvas (it gets hot here), easy to put back into any carry bag, have a small zip pocket on the side for keys, phone. A cup holder is also nice and most have them. And of course it should be sturdy and comfortable as DH and I are tall so a low, tripod stool isn’t for us when we are at a tournament for example, although we do stand frequently. The one I have carries an Eddie Bauer logo but I think it came from Target or maybe Dick’s....See Moreoutdoor design dilemma! Please help!
Comments (3)If you figure out the bug issue, the side yard looks big enough for a sofa seating area and maybe round table for dining. You could put down some stones and maybe cement pavers. Teak is a good wood for outdoor furniture or you could try metal. If the budget it tighter, shipping palettes or the plasticized rattan outdoor sofas are easy to care for. And yes get winter tarps if concerned about Northern winters and cold. Good luck! Enjoy the outdoors! We eat almost every meal outdoors when the weather permits. Good luck!...See MoreUser
