I recently sat on some from REI. they were great. Check there, they have a good selection and you can sort by different criteria. I think the ones I sat on may have been an older model, as I don't see the exact ones. They were director type.

I have had several of them and they have all been fine. The latest were Embark brand from Target, lightweight and you wouldn't expect them to be the best quality, but they've been fine. I don't think you need to overthink this.

There are little folding tripod stools you can carry instead of a chair. No backs on them. I've seen people use these at golf events. Look on the Dick's sporting goods page that localeater listed.

We have used one a lot over the years going to many soccer games. We usually sit on the sidelines, preferring that or having no choice 9 times out of 10, to sitting in the bleachers. We also use them for outdoor summer concerts. My criteria are these: must be lightweight for carrying, mesh or something cool rather than heavy canvas (it gets hot here), easy to put back into any carry bag, have a small zip pocket on the side for keys, phone. A cup holder is also nice and most have them.

And of course it should be sturdy and comfortable as DH and I are tall so a low, tripod stool isn’t for us when we are at a tournament for example, although we do stand frequently. The one I have carries an Eddie Bauer logo but I think it came from Target or maybe Dick’s.

I was thinking the tripod stools at REI might fit the bill. Very lightweight and compact and 15 or 16 inch seat height. Also very inexpensive. I see Dick’s has similar but 20” seat height with a back - 6 lbs though vs 2 lbs.
