We miss the plums of our Plum Tree
Comments (9)My parents have a plum tree in their backyard. It would bloom and attempt to fruit, but never got much fruit due to drop and what looked like disease. My dad finally cut it down to about a foot above the crotch. We placed a big flat rock on top of the branch stubs so it fit really nice, almost like a table. The tree ended up growing around the rock holding it securely, and the new growth looks nice compared to the gnarled, black knotted part that was there before. I'd say if you're at the point where you're going to cut it down, try cutting all of the top growth off....See MoreBitten Leaves on Satsuma Plum Tree
Comments (2)Hello Jean001a: Thanks for the response. No, I'm in San Diego, CA (zone 10a) and we rarely get hail. Also I've only had the tree for approx. 2 months so maybe where it came from had hail? But it really looks like it was attacked by some pest. Especially since when I first noticed it looked like something sucked holes in it which left black spots that eventually turned brittle and those brittle spots fell off the leaf. Depending on how many brittle black spots there were on the leaf, it would eventually rip/tear in those areas. Sorry if I've confused you even more. I was hoping that after spraying it with Neem oil it would eventually go away - but after seeing a few ants, I got worried. I've read somewhere online that ants could be an indication of disease or something about ants farming aphids (not sure what that means exactly)?...See MoreLets talk about plums ...2017

I have tons of European grafted on Japanese’s and it works here. Not all combos work but I had heavy fruiting from mt royal on brook red and Italian on my red brook gold ....See More15ft Ume Plum Tree Grafting To Another Variety Question
