Concrete overlay would have to be thicker than you can live with so that leaves you with more epoxy or possibly modified leveler. If modified floor leveler will adheare to the old epoxy you can use any floor cover you like. If thinset doesn't stick you could use epoxy instead for setting brick or stone on patio.

We softened the patio look with gardens. Absolutely agree with previous poster recommendation for a professional design. For example, where are utilities and will they need to move for a pool? Equipment access and might excavation disturb planting beds, drainage or compact the soil. As to patio/shelter, stake out your space and stretch string to “live” the space before you build anything. Again, consider utilities snd lifestyle needs. IF you want a roofed shelter you must consider wind and depending on your location , snow load.

@3onthetree - I should have looked at the drawing closer before I posted my question! A few hours after posting, I looked a little closer - and realized that it was the T&G cedar boards for the ceiling. I meant to come back here to correct my initial post - but have been a little crazy the past few days. I have other notes/specs for the project - I just didn’t post them because I didn’t think anyone would want to read them. I do, however, have a few other Qs - so, I will post what was submitted to the city + add some photos later tonight. I truly appreciate any comments/advice you have after looking at the notes/photos (if you have time). One of those sunshades might work, but for me the BBQ has a lot of smoke and its already close to both houses, so if you cover that area I think you might get a lot of smoke build up. The sun shade might be a good option as it would still allow air flow. https://a.co/d/3U7BU1O
