Decoration advice for new kitchen

Hi, Can I pick your brains for our new kitchen which is due to be fitted shortly. We have cream coloured cupboards, with a cranberry Rangemaster, black glass splash back, butler sink, pewter door handles. We are in a barn conversion and almost everywhere is white.
Stumped on paint colour for the kitchen - we have a small eating area a the end of the kitchen and wondered if painting that area a different colour would work? If so what colour would you go for? Will probably paint the rest of the kitchen in an off white. Any ideas appreciated. Its a light room as one wall is all glass.
Thanks for your help - completely useless with colour!!

what is the floor? I'd probably stay with neutral walls except the eating [nook? ] if it's set apart could be dramatically different. the cranberry rangemaster with the dark glass backsplash seems as though a link with something equally as bold done to the walls in the eating area would work. Wallpaper with some various reds/corals and maybe blue or green thrown in...as in botanical or geometric. It really just depends..barn conversions can be rustic or modern...chic or simple. How about some upholstered chairs for eating zone and then whatever fabric might tell you what to do with wall treatment.

Thanks for your reply...The floor is like the below pic...quite dark...Yes thinking just using the nook area to add colour...Thinking maybe berry colours or sage...Wasn't sure if sage would be a good accent for the oven. The barn is quite rustic...Fabric chairs sound fab but with 2 children under 5 maybe keep the wipe down chairs for a bit!

When was the house itself built? The interior design aspects are on point with the mid 1980s but the architecture is earlier mid century. I can't really picture someone building a house in that style and decorating aspects of it in late Modernism/post Modernism at the same time. I can picture someone updating a 1960-odd house this way.

Consider the following: 1. A new sofa against the window wall. 2. Mount tv above fireplace after wrapping the upper portion with reclaimed (fire retardant) wood. 3. Add two chairs with the backs facing the kitchen. 4. A large area rug. 5. Silhouette window treatments. Hope that helps!!

Try Nancy Ingram's excellent floor plan. You can add a chair you've already got to see if he sits in it or just piles clothes and books on it. An Ikea Poang chair is inexpensive at $79 and fits tall people just fine. Many, many college students do homework white sitting on their beds, not at their desks, but they still need desks for books and papers. A $60-$90 "bed chair pillow " really works much better than two bed pillows for sitting up in bed to use the computer to do homework.
