White subway tile backsplash. What color grout? Black? White?
Comments (27)I have the Subway Ceramics Avalon / Minas with a medium gray grout. And a Shaw's white sink, if anyone is considering that, by the way. (My contractor could have ordered it directly, but at his request, I went through a tile store, and by the time everyone had put their sugar onto it, it was OBSCENELY expensive.) I'm not an installation expert, but at least with the Subway Ceramics, the installers use little plastic spacers between the tiles (I think some others have their own spacers?) when they put them up, they don't do it freehand, so how much grout you get is a function of 1) the limits set by the curvature of the tile and 2) what size spacers they use. So you might be willing to go a little darker with a smaller grout line, or with a handmade tile that refuses to go close together, you might want to stay light. The traditional color is close to concrete. But most modern people don't seem to like that, so do what pleases you!...See MoreBacksplash Help - Alaska White Granite, Off White Cabinets
Comments (20)Oh my gosh! I'm reading all of your posts right now to my Hubby so he'll know I'm NOT the only one who can't make a decision on a backsplash! LOL I have the white Alaska granite countertops as well. It has been well over a year and I still can't decide! And although I do love them, it's such a hard decision to match them with a BS! I'm so happy I came across all of your posts. I know your struggles! However, hopefully, by now you have found the perfect backsplash for your kitchen countertops! Please post pictures if you have time. I'd really enjoy seeing some of the choices you have made. Karen backsplash less in Florence, Oregon :(...See MoreWhite cabinets with white backsplash too much?
Comments (21)ccwaters, true that crackle tile may stain, but that is why most manufacturers will recommend that crackle tile should be sealed. Do the research on what you are buying and how to properly care for it! I used a Pratt & Larson crackle and their specs stated the following: "All Crackle glazes in the RC and W line should be sealed to prevent water penetration and tile discoloration. Seal all crackle glazes with penetrating silicone sealer before and after grouting. Watercolor and RC glazes will continue to crackle over time. For long term maintenance we recommend resealing the crackled tiles every 3-6 months for the first year and every 6 months afterwards to further protect the glaze surface."...See MoreHow to match white backsplash to white cabinets
Comments (26)A last option, as mentioned above, if the back painted glass, other brands of white tile, or combining counter granite + painted wall, don't work out is to embrace the idea of introducing a bit of color - one that works with your other room. It can be pale enough that it isn't really a feature but still pulls the black and white together. Is your white in the cabinets a warm or a cool white? That might be the key to the problem, that you aren't finding tile of the same warmth. I do think your grey tile is pretty - the blue doesn't show on my computer, but I do know that grays often do have a hint of blue or green. I wonder if it still will look too blue once the warm tile floor is gone....See Morekruegesm
