white backsplash with white grout...will it stay white

i would love to have a bright white beveled subway tile backsplash in my kitchen. Will the grout stay white/???

My apologies for the delayed response, Houzz has not been sending us alerts/notifications. You can go down to your local hardware store/Home Depot or Lowes and ask the tile department for a bottle of cleaner and grout sealer. Clean the tile and grout according to the specs and directions. Follow through with the grout sealer- there should be step by step directions posted on the back of the bottle. Sealers come in spray bottles for an easy DIY project. We always recommend sealing the grout, especially if it is white. As I think of it now, I can't remember us never not doing the sealing process with our backsplashes. Hope this helps!

We did just that- beveled white subway and white grout. They used a sealed grout, and no issues over 2 years later. I do try to clean up splatters as they happen, but I have cleaned up missed spots much later and still no issues.

My experience is that the grout lines will stay white except for behind the range. It doesn't matter how good you are about cleaning, the grease spatters and other spots will get into the grout behind the range. I recommend a stainless steel panel for just the area behind the range. Looks good too; adds a "pro" look.

I have the Subway Ceramics Avalon / Minas with a medium gray grout. And a Shaw's white sink, if anyone is considering that, by the way. (My contractor could have ordered it directly, but at his request, I went through a tile store, and by the time everyone had put their sugar onto it, it was OBSCENELY expensive.) I'm not an installation expert, but at least with the Subway Ceramics, the installers use little plastic spacers between the tiles (I think some others have their own spacers?) when they put them up, they don't do it freehand, so how much grout you get is a function of 1) the limits set by the curvature of the tile and 2) what size spacers they use. So you might be willing to go a little darker with a smaller grout line, or with a handmade tile that refuses to go close together, you might want to stay light. The traditional color is close to concrete. But most modern people don't seem to like that, so do what pleases you!

Many people with Carrara (which is similiar) have chosen Custom Platinum. It's a very light grey that tends to minimize patterns, if that is your goal. But, compare the color to your sample, as your tile may be different.

Oh my gosh! I'm reading all of your posts right now to my Hubby so he'll know I'm NOT the only one who can't make a decision on a backsplash! LOL I have the white Alaska granite countertops as well. It has been well over a year and I still can't decide! And although I do love them, it's such a hard decision to match them with a BS! I'm so happy I came across all of your posts. I know your struggles! However, hopefully, by now you have found the perfect backsplash for your kitchen countertops! Please post pictures if you have time. Thanks mdl. I will toy around with this idea. I like light and bright, but we do have plenty of that in this kitchen already, plus a huge wall of windows. Our whole house is warm neutrals, and that is what is challenging me here. I agree that the white and the blue both look too cool. And thanks designsavy. I was on a mission to get it all done ASAP as we are using a contractor and are doing many rooms in a remodel, and the dust is getting to me, but we have just rearranged the sequence of things, and will now be doing kitchen, laundry, then master bath, so there should be time once the cabs and countertop are installed. I'd rather make it right and slow down if necessary.

I had white backsplash and white grout (thin grout lines) for 20 years and I am not fibbing when I say they were pretty much perfectly clean and white, even behind the range after 20+ years. I sealed them with several coats when they were first installed and that was it. I think it was regular old un-sanded grout but I am not positive. And I cook a lot but I am also fussy and clean up right away when a mess is made.

We do kitchen and bathroom renovations all the time. A backsplash truly makes a HUGE impact in the kitchen. As long as you use unsanded grout and seal it, yes it will stay white. You should seal the tile and grout every year or so depending on how much you use your kitchen. With proper care and maintenance, your tile and grout will stay white for years to come!

Couture Company! My kitchen is about 2 1/2 yrs old. I haven't done anything to it. Can you recommend what to do if I am not sure how they sealed it or what type of grout was used?? It still looks good but I would like to keep it that way. Thank you !!Talking about my backsplash,sorry!!
