Oh boy. In case it helps, here is my thread with similar choices to your own except I do have black leathered on the perimeter. I am linking it because there are a lot of pictures with suggestions from others and tile that is laying on my alaska white island. I hope it helps somehow. I did pull the trigger on the Walker Zanger pipe smoke tile. It is due in the end of this month so I don't have it installed yet. Romy posted a pic of it from a houzz photo in the thread. It is warm and the perfect greige for my alaska white (IMO) and I have tried a gagillion tiles with my soft white cabinets and gray stained island. Too cool, too warm, too gray, too brown - I am sure you can relate.

Oh I am so sorry. How frustrating! On my iPad the BS looks dusty purple. And while I do think it's a pretty color, I can understand why that might not be the undertone you were wanting with the granite.

The lighter grey may work, but I would see if you can get a few more of those tiles and tape them up on the wall. Then post another picture.

It sort of seems like it changes colors when up on the wall verses flat on the countertop. Maybe it's your under cabinet lighting throwing off the color into more of a purplish grey? I ask because I don't notice it as much when it is laying flat in the second photo. Hmmm. What happens with the lights off?

rebunky -- on the wall with the surroundings, it is different, but even with lights off, it's just not the look I was going for. I am going to get more tiles.

I jumped the gun (time crunch for getting finished and moving in) when i shouldn't have -- we could have moved in without it finished. This backsplash has been the hardest thing -- too many colors to coordinate. I hope the interior designer at the tile store will be helpful tomorrow. Undertones, warm, cool, blah blah blah. My brain is done.

Your Alaska White is beautiful! Sorry about the tile, but I do agree, not a great match. I have Alaska White as well, but was pulling more of the tan than the grey- have SW Kilim Beige on the walls. I wanted my BS to be low key- went with beveled white subway. Have white cabs, which made that decision a little easier.

Maybe a lighter grey BS tile would be nice, rather than the blue tones you have. Something a bit more subtle. Good luck!

Momof1 - your cabinets are gorgeous! I agree that the dark grey just doesn't work and I don't think the lighter grey is right either. I'm wondering what an off-white like the cabinets would look like?

Haha, trust me I get how hard choosing the bs is. I have been without a backsplash for over a year and a half now. I have bought and returned so many tiles I've lost count. I tape them on the wall for a week or so, go back and forth debating them at different times of day and night, until I rip them down because I'm going stark raving mad.

I learned here it's called ABB which means "all but (the) backsplash." I know the exact tile that I think will be perfect for me, but it is very expensive. I know once I get the sample, nothing else will do. I love the Encore crackle subway tile like Romy's or marthastoo's. Or another beauty is from Fireclay. Both are budget busters. But everytime I think, oh this big box store one is fine, good enough, I chicken out. My fear is I end up being in your exact same predicament.

So I really appreciate you sharing your story, unfortunate as it is, as it convinces me not to settle just to be done. I'm sure this time around you'll pick the perfect tile to make your heart sing!

I remember autumns thread. That Walker Zanger (think that's the right name) in smoke color really was the perfect one. Your kitchen looks very similar. Maybe your tile store can order a sample if it for you?

Also good idea to go in a completely different direction as a couple people suggested. Try the more creamy white tiles that match more to the cabinets or the cream colors in the granite. Hope your appt. with the tile designer goes well. Post the samples you get here so we can all vote!

momof1 if you are looking for a soft white Adex Hampton comes in 'bone' and that was a pretty close match to my soft white. It comes in 3x6, 2x4, crackle and beveled. It matched well for me but with the black perimeter I wanted a color more like my paint color vs. black and white type of a thing. It is also not a budget buster at all which is a bonus.

Interesting - I like the overall backsplash a good deal, but really, really don't like the cooktop mosaic.

I don't care for the mosaic either. It competes with your countertops. Your cabinets are beautiful & I really like the dark hardware with your cabinets & countertop. I think a rich creamy white that matches your cabinets might be perfect.

I don't like the mosaic either, it's all I see when I look at that wall.

I'd stay away from grey's altogether. What about a lighter tone of the colour of the handles.It would flow up through the granite and onto the backsplash (and the other way around).

i agree, not loving the mosaic either, i don't think its needed since u have a busy countertop....either bring samples home or is u have a piece leftover from install, bring it with you to the tile stores...try different types b/c u never know what will look good till you try it. IMO, i like a matte finish B/S with a shiny counter, balances it out/not as much glare...

I am going through this right now. I've been 8 months without a blackspash and at one point gave up for a while. I have linen white cabinets and Alaskan White Granite. Also an island that I think is greyish others see brownish. I thought I would like a light grey but not sure. Yours looks pretty. Are you happy with it now.

Oh my gosh! I'm reading all of your posts right now to my Hubby so he'll know I'm NOT the only one who can't make a decision on a backsplash! LOL I have the white Alaska granite countertops as well. It has been well over a year and I still can't decide! And although I do love them, it's such a hard decision to match them with a BS! I'm so happy I came across all of your posts. I know your struggles! However, hopefully, by now you have found the perfect backsplash for your kitchen countertops! Please post pictures if you have time. My kitchen is almost finished. Just had my Alaska White granite countertops installed today. I’m trying to decide on backsplash too. I really like brick but not sure how that will look. My cabinets are a creamy color with hazelnut glaze and oil rubbed bronze hardware. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Any updates on what people chose to go with their Alaska white granite?

I just picked Alaska white for our kitchen redo and I'm looking at using a gray glass tile. Thinking about possibly doing a mix of gray glass tile with a white ceramic tile. Our cabinets will be white and I'm not sure of doing all white backslash. I like color and more of a warmer feel.

Can’t believe others have the same problem as I do with finding a BS for my Alaska White counter; been over 1.5 years for me!! I have Cloud white cabinets. Have tried darker bronze shade and lighter grey samples and neither look good. I’m returning to a light cream colour that matches my cabinets... this was my first choice about a year or so back, then I drifted off into trying several different samples, none of which look right!

Look forward to hearing what others decide. It’s a challenge for sure!
