Did it Dorothy thanks. I didn't have very good luck with the others this year. They are being very slow. I think I got some again that had bloomed already. I think the one cool looking one has red mites or whatever it is that the amaryllis get. Gonna have to get out the systemic. Looks like the mealy bugs found the plants in the garage so got to try and drag out some of the plants and give them an alcohol bath. Of course hubby just called and I have to go to work today when I feel like working on the plants. Oh well duty calls.

Mike I love tall guys roflmao. I wonder what they see way up there?? Glad you are still bored. Well...wish you weren't but it is to our advantage :-) First year growing MG trees and I just love them! Funny thou on how different they also grow depending on where they are located at. In the ground or pots...all day sun or more shade. Lucy

In my experience, Curtisii seems quite adaptable. I too let mine dry out btwn waterings. It's one of my oldest Hoyas, but is still quite small (& never bloomed). I have it in a very small plastic Orchid Pot which allows it some air around the bottom & underneath. I have that sitting in a shallow bowl of pumice into which I water to overflow. A number of yrs. ago I experimented w/ growing it mounted on bark where it did very well. I apologize to anyone who's already heard me tell this, but I found it did exceptionally well on bark which I have used plain sewing thread w/ which to mount snips of Curtisii to the bark. It grows those small aerial roots w/ which it attaches to bark. My only issue was I got tired of having to take it over to the sink to spray or immerse in water ever day or every 2nd or 3rd day maximum. So enventually I took it apart & replanted it into mix. I'm quite partial to the shape of the leaves (in design terms the leaf shape is called an Ogee). One of my early & favorite Hoyas! I find it indestructible.

Granlan, was planning to move Fred out to the country somewhere nearby. I just took him another apple, set it by his burrow (under my porch). I may put another one in the cage tomorrow and see if I catch him. It's raining off and on and don't want to trap him tonight. We just got home about 2 hours ago. I can't believe we were gone so long. Alex liked Morehead a lot, except the dorm they showed us. They were pretty bad, really old and beat up inside, but they're renovating them. The rest of the campus was pretty nice and we got a tour of the new space center, which was really cool! They have a brand new building that they're still working on, with a big digital-viewing screen like you find in planitariums (domed ceiling) for viewing outer space; a 70 ft satelite tracking system up on a hill above the space center that we got to go up into. The professor let Alex move it-really cool. I can't believe he spent so much time showing us around and talking to us about the program. He invited us back in the Fall when school was in session so Alex could talk to the students and actually participate in the studies they're doing. He's really not sure he wants to do that type of work for life, though, he's afraid it will get boring after awhile. So, not sure what he's going to end up doing. He's also interested in History and Marine Biology. He did like the campus, though. It's a very tiny town in the mountains of Eastern KY. The classes are small but it has a very good reputation. On the way home the air conditioning was going off for long periods of time in my car. It was horribly hot. Alex was driving and I had planned to stop on the way home in Lexington to get a second key made for the car. I've been putting it off ever since I bought it because it was so expensive. Well, when we got to the dealer the guy told me my car was overheating...explains the air conditioner not working. The hoses were leaking coolant all over the place, which they refilled. I now have to take it back on Monday morning to get the hoses replaced. They're going to loan me a car to drive that day and the next morning so I can get back and forth to work. Oh, and I called before we went and was told the new key would be $61 plus tax, but when I got it done they were going to charge me $110! I asked what cost me the extra $50, because I thought the guy told me checking why the car was overheating would be free if it was something obvious. Well, they didn't tell me the key cost $61 and it was another $50 for them to program it. He took the $50 off after I told him they told me it would be $61. Good thing I wrote it down and was able to show him. Well, just came out of Alex's room, he's talking to one of his friends on the computer. His friend is planning on going to Morehead too, and now Alex is not interested in seeing any other colleges. We are planning on going back in the Fall so his friend can see it and they can check the Biology department out and maybe talk to some students and sit in on classes. I was going to drive them both but his friend mentioned him driving them. Yikes, not sure I like that.
