It sounds like Fred is pretty smart! I know we have set live traps before for raccoons and we catch our outside cats! We have caught several raccoons though. The raccoons are pretty smart. They can even climb a small pole with a baffle to my bird feeder. I haven't put bird seed out in some time because of them. They empty it out overnight! Hopefully you will catch Fred soon. I am back home, and boy, did I sleep good in my own bed. :) My yard is green, and the grass is tall.

I guess, mowing is on the horizon for me. Meanwhile I have a load of laundry going.

Kathleen, I have been very unsuccessful in trying to catch some squirrels in a trap. They eat whatever I put in there for them, but don't set the trap off.

Good morning from the sunny Texas Panhandle.

We're expecting rain and some storms later today, so the humidity will remain high as well as the winds.

Don't like storms, but we can always use rain and I especially enjoy it when my yards have been mowed...mine were yesterday.

I have a question for you ladies who trap animals. What do you do with the raccoons, squirrels, ground hog, etc.?

Good Morning All. It's bright and sunny here in my part of the mid west. I am trying to get clothes laundered and my suitcases unpacked. The floor man is coming today and I need to pick up some of the "decor" off the floor. I have a weakness for silk plants so have a few sitting around and I move them for him. My arm is sore after therapy yesterday. She really stretched it because of being away for a week. She said I really improved in the week I was away.

I haven't had to do anything with trapped squirrels, since I don't seem to find any dumb enough to get in and stay. LOL

Plan is to relocate them at the lake nearby.

I really get a kick out of watching them in my back yard. I've been feeding them also.

Your wasting your time, you will never be rid of them and most animals die when you relocate them. I fed the squirrels at my last home, I called them my own private circus. The only thing I have had to relocate was possum's living under our deck. There were getting to be to many of them and I think one died under there because my back yard stunk for quite a while. I felt guilty, because I know most die and was relieved to learn possum's have a better chance of surviving than any animal. We closed up the bottom of the deck so we didn't have to do it again.

My raccoons get moved to my Mother's place with a river and a lot of woods.

Kathleen, how did Alex like Morehead?

Granlan, was planning to move Fred out to the country somewhere nearby. I just took him another apple, set it by his burrow (under my porch). I may put another one in the cage tomorrow and see if I catch him. It's raining off and on and don't want to trap him tonight.

We just got home about 2 hours ago. I can't believe we were gone so long. Alex liked Morehead a lot, except the dorm they showed us. They were pretty bad, really old and beat up inside, but they're renovating them.

The rest of the campus was pretty nice and we got a tour of the new space center, which was really cool! They have a brand new building that they're still working on, with a big digital-viewing screen like you find in planitariums (domed ceiling) for viewing outer space; a 70 ft satelite tracking system up on a hill above the space center that we got to go up into. The professor let Alex move it-really cool. I can't believe he spent so much time showing us around and talking to us about the program. He invited us back in the Fall when school was in session so Alex could talk to the students and actually participate in the studies they're doing.

He's really not sure he wants to do that type of work for life, though, he's afraid it will get boring after awhile. So, not sure what he's going to end up doing. He's also interested in History and Marine Biology. He did like the campus, though. It's a very tiny town in the mountains of Eastern KY. The classes are small but it has a very good reputation.

On the way home the air conditioning was going off for long periods of time in my car. It was horribly hot. Alex was driving and I had planned to stop on the way home in Lexington to get a second key made for the car. I've been putting it off ever since I bought it because it was so expensive. Well, when we got to the dealer the guy told me my car was overheating...explains the air conditioner not working. The hoses were leaking coolant all over the place, which they refilled. I now have to take it back on Monday morning to get the hoses replaced. They're going to loan me a car to drive that day and the next morning so I can get back and forth to work.

Oh, and I called before we went and was told the new key would be $61 plus tax, but when I got it done they were going to charge me $110! I asked what cost me the extra $50, because I thought the guy told me checking why the car was overheating would be free if it was something obvious. Well, they didn't tell me the key cost $61 and it was another $50 for them to program it. He took the $50 off after I told him they told me it would be $61. Good thing I wrote it down and was able to show him.

Well, just came out of Alex's room, he's talking to one of his friends on the computer. His friend is planning on going to Morehead too, and now Alex is not interested in seeing any other colleges. We are planning on going back in the Fall so his friend can see it and they can check the Biology department out and maybe talk to some students and sit in on classes. I was going to drive them both but his friend mentioned him driving them. Yikes, not sure I like that.

For groundhog bait, try sweet peas. Sweet peas are the dessert item on their menu. Sweet peas, pea pods with peas, and the lower part of the sweet pea vine, are all attractive to a woodchuck.

How do I know? We watched one that got into our garden and he decimated a row of sweet peas. He did not eat the whole vine, just the section in front of his nose: from 2 to 6 inches above the ground. Wiped out the entire row. merely eating that part of the vine. He did not touch anything else in the garden after having gorged on peas.

I found that sweet pea was an effective bait when I live trapped him.
