No. I've seen them made with cream,milk,water, and half and half. I don't know what difference it really makes,other than richness.

It could also affect the thickness (wateriness or lack thereof). You can compensate, next time, by reducing the half and half (or milk) some, first. No matter what you did, it'll be "just right" and "like momma made" to somebody. :)

Likely you added too much half and half. There is no "recipe" for mushy peas....just cook peas add butter and salt and pepper and mush them up....add some milk or cream fi you wish.

English mushy peas are made from dried, soaked and boiled marrow fat peas. Did you use frozen fresh peas? Won't work if you did. you'd just get a pea purée.

islay Corbel, the recipes I looked up called for frozen peas so what I used. Definitely not the flavor I've tasted in the U.K. Are peas you described available in markets or is that a must do at home deal? I do not stock bone marrow fat in my pantry, ha

They are usually eaten with : fish and chips where you buy them from the chippie, or with pies but I think only really in London. Could be wrong, but where I come from (Oxford), we don't eat them. It's a more northern thing.

We had wonderful Mushy Peas in Belfast. "Mooshy", with the "oo" sound in "good." They were green, so I guess made from split peas.

I've made them with regular green peas and we like them but I've never been able to find those marrowfat peas that they use in UK, if I could find them I would use them. The regular peas taste good but the skins don't break down enough to make them look creamy like the pictures I've seen of the other ones.

Oh, I see marrowfat peas stay green when dried. I was wrong to think mushy peas are green split peas.

Wow! Those are a lot more expensive here than in England!
