We do have a designated playspace for our kiddos, and craft supplies were one of the hardest things to corral. Friends suggested those plastic bins on wheels, but I was concerned about the quality of the plastic--my kids definitely put hard use into the Sterilite containers many of their toys have been stored in, so those containers seemed like a disaster waiting to happen. Someone suggested Ikea, and we found TROFAST. I won't say it's perfect--we have a hard time, sometimes, keeping the bins in the plastic runners--but it's not *broken*, just not super-simple to use (not hard, though, either--my youngest is 3). Anyway, we have one shallow bin for markers, one for adhesives (tape, glue sticks, glue, packing tape), one for colored pencils, one for scissors and rulers, one for random crafty stuff, one for color books, and a deeper one for paper. It works, it hides the mess, it's not enormous, and it's easy for the kids to find what they're looking for. Marker even wipes off the top (well, Crayola does). It sits on the floor behind the table we bought at auction from one of the school's art programs.
