Writing Our Life Stories: Assignment One
Comments (16)Greetings again, all, As I said in the earlier post, my (I like that "my"!) librarian said that they have that book in that small rural library, and I don't know whether she meant in the system as a whole - that involves over 15 libraries, I think, in our county. I remember that an older sister of a girl that I used to go with in high school told me after she'd left home and I'd written her that she liked getting a letter from me - that it was like talking to me. I think that you'll find that, once you start the memory tap flowing ... that other memories will come crowding in, and it'll rather surprise you: I guess that memory banks produce some interest. Jannie ... don't sell yourself short, please ... see, even a short message from you piqued the interest of a couple of other readers among the rather small number who have posted. jodi ... and others ... how about a tape recorder? gayle marie ... don't bother with a shrink - come here. And ... we're free! Kidding aside, many have found that ideas that they've brought foward have produced some interesting and useful responses, including things that they hadn't thought of, and on occasion a different slant on a subject about which they'd done some thinking. When we get our books written ... ... they all get passed around here, via email, right? As they'd be too thick to post here. (Or would some of us be too thick to understand 'em?). ole joyful...See Moreassignment F
Comments (5)Great photo! It brings me back to my childhood days when our family would take trips up around Lake Superior into Canada. We'd camp and have fish every night....I sure do remember those rocky lakes. Julie...See MoreAssigned Seating(?), etc. etc. etc....
Comments (8)Thanks everyone. I think I might forego any assigned seating at all - there will be no wedding party, and the only parents left between the two of us are my mom & stepmom. My two moms might feel awkward being stuck at the same table, and choosing one to sit with me would hurt the other's feelings. I also suspect that I won't sit in any one place for long. Lots of circulating (and too nervous to sit still anyway), maybe I'll grab a salad plate & eat that somewhere, then get some lasagne and have that somewhere else, then a piece of cake at another table... Good point about not everyone eating at once. That's kind of how I imagine it. Gellchom, you bring up something I hadn't thought of - someone clearing tables. We've had a good number of parties at my dad's place (he died at the end of last summer, and I can't help but think of it still as his place), and generally, we just have a few large trash cans so guests can clear their own places. Is that really tacky to do for a wedding? I think there will probably be between 100 & 150 guests at the wedding, but that includes some babies & very young children. I just came up with another (unrelated) question about his/my families. Will start a new thread. Thank you again. Carrie...See MoreAnother gravestone assignment (11 pics)
Comments (18)Hi Judy - I volunteer at two websites, FindAGrave and Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness (RAOGK). The assignments consist of a cemetery name and the name(s) of the deceased. Sometimes the cemetery is too far from me, and I turn the assignment down. And sometimes the requested graves don't exist at the cemetery. Records are not always accurate. But even if I don't find the grave I'm looking for, as long as I'm there I photograph numerous gravestones and then upload the pictures to FindAGrave, adding the names of the deceased to their database when necessary. Sometimes I discover that the names are already there, needing photos. I'm not the only person at the KT doing this. In fact, I started at RAOGK and then heard about FindAGrave here. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. Susan...See Morejojoco
