Did you buy this new? Did it come with instructions and all the necessary pieces-parts? If the answers are yes and you can't make it work, I can think of no better argument than to use a plain-Jane wired mouse. I don't use anything wireless if I can possibly avoid it. YMMV.

Wireless mice typically work with a tiny receiver that plugs into a USB port. If you don't have that piece, it won't work. You can see that part in this photo:

That particular wireless mouse is not very expensive and it gets pretty mediocre reviews on Amazon.

I've used a wireless mouse for years, and appreciate not having the annoying tug of a cord. If you want to use a wireless mouse, there are much better and more reliable options, many of them for what that one costs or even less: Wireless mice

Gearhead usually stores the USB receiver under the battery cover. Pull it out, plug it in and the software will auto install.

As stated above, there should be a Dongle (Nano Receiver) that plugs into a USB Port on your computer. Depending upon which Gearhead Wireless Mouse you have, the Dongle could be stored Under the Battery Cover or you may just have a Slot in the Bottom of the Mouse for Storage (no cover).

To make the Mouse work:

1. Remove Dongle and Plug it into an Open USB Port on your computer
2. Remove the Battery Cover and place Fresh AA Battery/Batteries in the mouse (Make sure they are installed in the correct direction)
3. Turn the Mouse to the On Position (Switch on Bottom of the mouse)
4. Turn on your computer and allow Windows to Install Drivers for your mouse. If by some chance Windows Can't install drivers for you, go to the manufacturers website, download and install the drivers you downloaded

Because you have not listed a Model Number for the mouse:

• Older Mice had Much Longer USB Dongles (hopefully the dongle hasn't been lost, there was NO On Mouse Storage).

• The Oldest Mice had a Box with a Cord that you set on your Desk (the mouse was still wireless though)!

If by some chance you have one of the older mice, there might also be a Connect Button on the Dongle and the Mouse. If it does have a connect button; you'd First press the Connect Button on the Dongle and next the Connect Button on the Mouse.

When it starts getting funny, remember to change out the batteries :)

If you like the mouse and would like to get a much better Wireless Mouse I'd Recommend getting a Logitech Anywhere MX Mouse or the Logitech Performance Mouse MX. They both have the Darkfield Technology and are very accurate mice, best I've ever had by far!

As in the Description of the First Mouse "ANYWHERE", well these mice will work on almost any surface (no mouse pad needed). They will work on Glass, Mirrors, Blue Jeans, Leather or Cloth Chair Arms, Tables, Desktops, Plastics, etc..., etc..., etc...

These mice also offer the Smooth Scrolling (Which I love) or you can set it to click with ever turn, your choice. To switch between Smooth Scrolling and Click Scrolling, you only need press down on the Wheel until it clicks. The Mouse can use 1 or 2 AA Alkaline Batteries, again your choice. The Anywhere Mouse MX comes with a Leather-Like Carrying Case, very nice if you travel.
