In my experience, the paint looks significantly lighter on the cabinet than on a sample. The slight gloss to the paint makes it appear lighter, too. We used Lancaster White on our island, which, on a sample/paint chip, looks fairly yellowish and pretty dark compared to a lot of whites, but on the island certainly doesn't look dark and, to me, not very yellow. In other words, not only does it lighten, but washes out from the perception given by the little swatches. This is the best photo I have at the moment. I only show it so if, in your search of BM colors, you see a sample of the Lancaster White, you can see the difference in swatch to reality and may be able to relate it to other colors that interest you.

Well that's exactly the reason on why it's so hard to give general advice on colors Revere Pewter for example is a lovely color that is highly praised, yet in my place looked like wet cement or something. I bet so much depends on a particular house in a particular geographical location too. That's why I dislike when people from, say, Vancouver say what's "timeless" to everybody whether they're living in Vancouver too, or maybe Arizona, or Florida That's why also every trend here gets bashed so, IMHO..because people pick it up and go with it(homeowners or builders) regardless whether it works in the first place..then it's everywhere whether it makes sense there or not much..then of course there's over-saturation of sorts, and folks start hating it. When nobody frankly put the gun to their head in the first place making them go with X or install Y. well I guess when it's put everywhere then it's not like you have big big choice either and at some point builders start putting whatever the trend everywhere, sometimes tastefully, sometimes ..lets say not so much That was off topic of course, for which I apologize:) As for the paints..might be a matter of many things. Say all mine are Dunn Edwards..and I had no idea such company exists at all, they don't have stores on the East Coast. Then when we remodeled the GC highly preferred for us to go with Dunn Edwards since he had an account with them, and they're very popular here. I could insist on other paint but would cost more..Dunn Edwards is considered pretty good..so ok, had to study Dunn Edwards. When I frankly would go with Benjamin Moore just because I know their colors a tad better. with Dunn Edwards had no idea where to start even the amount of samples I had to go through..can't decide whether it's funny or awfully funny lol (my white to go for trim is Swiss Coffee..luckily Behr has it, Dunn Edwards has it, I think Benjamin Moore has it..and they're pretty much Swiss Coffee all of them, so at least that..)

Oxford white is perfect with the 5131 Calacatta Nuvo...our reno is a long story but we had this combination in our new kitchen, for a short period of time and I loved it. I first saw this combo in a friends home which was beautiful. Our kitchen was ruined before we were able to use it due to a flood. Our new kitchen after the flood is still Oxford white but the counters are now quartzite. I do like Simply white...have it in my bedroom but just preferred Oxford for my kitchen.

I have a samplei,e of cloud white. Got a quart in Benjamin Moore and painted a sample board, and a 2x2 square in tge samplize. The paint is a darker almost peach on the sampleize. I have samplizes for white heron, chantilly lace, mountain peak white, cotton balls and simply white. They all look pretty much the same with slightly varying degrees of grayness as the light gets low. Not sure sampleize can do white colors with real fidelity. Comparing sample boards of real paint btw white dove (85.38) and cloud white (87.35)...white dove looks darker and depending on light dingiet. Cloud white is a lighter cleaner tan (which looks a little peachy to me sometimes). Both seem def off whites. Just put up z sample board of swiss coffee (83.93) using a sample can. Swiss Coffe looks as light a color as white dove (but one is real paunt and one is sample paint) but right now looks a bit greenish. I dont think thats a bad thing with wood.
