Paint help! BM White Dove with my Princess White quartzite not working

I had my heart set on White Dove for my kitchen cabinets and trim. We even ordered our windows with White Dove equivalent interior trim. I got a sample of the Princess White quartzite we purchased and the paint just looks a little gray/dingy next to it.

I tried Simply White (looked greenish) and Cloud White (looked yellowish). The Crystal Cabinets "Designer White" sample seems too stark. I'll have a white Kohler farmhouse sink as well which will show how "not white" it is....

Is there another white without green, blue or yellow undertones I should check? Is it possible to lighten White Dove so it is a little whiter without adding new undertones? Has anyone done that or does it change it too much?

Whites are tricky(as most colors are lol)..they'll change with the light, and will look a tad different depending on a room. So..it's down to sampling

Funny her hate of china white is my go to white for trim. And no mention of any Sherwin Williams colors.

I like that pendant. (I'm looking for something similar to replace my beloved pendants over my peninsula that have some issues so I popped over to the CB website.) Are you OK with the low light output? 25 watts is very low. My two glass pendants have 60 watt bulbs and seem like just enough light. Fewer would not be sufficient. Hope I didn't burst your bubble. It's so hard to find just the right pendant shape, in just the right size, with just the right lumens, at just the right price!

:) It's not chemistry. Many think there's some kind of code to decipher in color formulas. There isn't, it's a waste of time. Colorimetry is much more useful. Colorimetry is the science of color measurements. And it's incredibly powerful because it's the science and technology used to quantify and describe physically how humans experience color. So all those numbers in the chart I posted are based on how those colors are actually perceived by human eyeballs. Has nothing to do with abstract, meaningless paint bases and colorants.

Yeah, same here, like it's a dolomite or marble. You get so tired of looking, you're like "I don't care any more!!" lol. Actually, it's not funny. It's a true investment that gets used daily...so it DOES need to hold up and endure. I too am a messy cook and am a person that doesn't mind if something sits on the countertop for a few hours esp when you're having a party -- what's on my countertop is my least concern!

BM oxford white cabinets with BM white Dove walls

I have ordered custom cabinets that will be painted in BM Oxford white. We are thinking of painting the walls in BM white dove. Will the two colors go together? Yes, they go together for two reasons. White Dove belongs to the Yellow hue family and Oxford belongs to the Green-Yellow hue family; they're far enough apart in terms of hue but not too close together. Secondly, there's enough difference in Chroma between the two that one won't make the other look dirty or dingy. White Dove will actually make Oxford White look cleaner, crisper and more white. If this works should we also paint the trim in oxford white? Trim, doors, cabinets should all be the same color of white. You should wait for your cabinets and then have your trim/door product color matched to whatever version of Oxford White they turn out to be. Because the cabinet maker is probably color matching to Oxford White best he can in whatever product he's using. It's unlikely your cabinets will match an Oxford White paint chip spot-on.

Well that's exactly the reason on why it's so hard to give general advice on colors

Revere Pewter for example is a lovely color that is highly praised, yet in my place looked like wet cement or something.

I bet so much depends on a particular house in a particular geographical location too. That's why I dislike when people from, say, Vancouver say what's "timeless" to everybody whether they're living in Vancouver too, or maybe Arizona, or Florida

That's why also every trend here gets bashed so, IMHO..because people pick it up and go with it(homeowners or builders) regardless whether it works in the first place..then it's everywhere whether it makes sense there or not much..then of course there's over-saturation of sorts, and folks start hating it.

When nobody frankly put the gun to their head in the first place making them go with X or install Y.

well I guess when it's put everywhere then it's not like you have big big choice either

and at some point builders start putting whatever the trend everywhere, sometimes tastefully, sometimes ..lets say not so much

As for the paints..might be a matter of many things. Say all mine are Dunn Edwards..and I had no idea such company exists at all, they don't have stores on the East Coast. Then when we remodeled the GC highly preferred for us to go with Dunn Edwards since he had an account with them, and they're very popular here. I could insist on other paint but would cost more..Dunn Edwards is considered pretty good..so ok, had to study Dunn Edwards.

When I frankly would go with Benjamin Moore just because I know their colors a tad better.

the amount of samples I had to go through..can't decide whether it's funny or awfully funny lol

(my white to go for trim is Swiss Coffee..luckily Behr has it, Dunn Edwards has it, I think Benjamin Moore has it..and they're pretty much Swiss Coffee all of them, so at least that..)
