Comments (3)The oleander is the variety they sell at WalMart on clearance when it has a touch of scale and is potbund. I realized today that technically I protected the oleander because I sprayed it with Wilt-Pruf late last month. I'd like to hit it again before it turns cold again. I killed a gloriosa last year with no protection or special siting. It was buried under snow and ice for upwards of 3 months. This one hasn't had snow on it for more than a day because all of the snow on the ground is melted around it. We only had 7" of snow in December, it will be gone tomorrow, but it's been consistently cold, 10 straight and then 12 straight days below freezing with a monthly low of 8. Could've been worse....See MoreHappy New Year's Eve Everyone
Comments (18)Pammyfay -- Thanks for your good wishes. I *knew* there was nothing, but got bullied by MD's (yet again). I'm just tired of being the well-insured, generally healthy 'patient' for these procedures. It's been going on since I was 25; I'm 71. We've owned our little condo on Maui for 12 years. A month or two is *plenty*. I doubt we'd ever want to live full time in Hawaii. Because we rent it when we aren't there, there is always maintenance and refurbishing to do -- not 100% 'vacationing'....See MoreHappy New Year's Eve
Comments (12)Minnie that's so funny picturing you out there rattling your pots and pans. I googled, and I saw that one of the traditions is to make noise to ward off bad luck etc. So cute. Hubby and I buried our dollar coin this morning. I should have sprung, and buried a Toonie ($2 coin)...See MoreNew Year's Eve is Bad News
Comments (12)Azzelea, My comment really wasn't directed so much at you, specifically. This is actually the comment that bothered me the most: "Maybe the gal has a 'problem' and has frequent accidents. Maybe that's why it's in hubby's name. She could have lost all she already had, and he don't want to lose any more." My husband and I carpool to work every day. He drives, we go to his office and he gets out and then I drive to my office. I pay $100 per month for parking (it's $175 per month to park near my husband's office). At the end of the day I drive to his office to get him, but he usually drives home. However, there are plenty of times when I go to an appointment during the workday, or run errands at lunch, etc., when I am alone in the car, so I am clearly driving my husband's car. If, Heaven forbid, I should get into an accident, I guess Leslie would think less of me because I'd be driving hubs' car, not my own. And Liz's comment confuses me, too. "All of our cars are registered in both of our names...as well as insurance...we just list me first on mine and him first on his...so we don't have to license 3 cars in the same month...mine gets licensed in August and his get licensed in April! (our birthday months)" Here in California, the month in which you have to pay the registration fee on your car has nothing to do with your birth month. It's an annual renewal based upon the month in which you first registered the vehicle. (And I still don't understand how putting her husband's name first on his vehicle's registration means that the fees are due in his birth month -- unless the state of Georgia ties the two events together...)...See MoreLoneJack Zn 6a, KC
