OT, but fun: When do you take down your holiday decorations?
Comments (7)When I was married my husband was in charge of outdoor decorations. We both were shift workers then at the same plant so it was natural for one of us to come home at 11 pm. I figured it was finally time to take down the front decorations as we were heavy decorators. Nothing left unturned in out yard. So when he was due in at 11 one night I had the whole outdoors lit up. Every light on. Everything moving. He unplugged it. Next night same thing He came home to Vegas lights. He showed me. Removed the extension cord. Ha I am an electrician. After the third night they were down. He is gone now. Kinda miss messing with him. Paula...See MoreWhen will you take your feeders down?
Comments (15)So, yea, I plan on keeping my hummers fresh with nectar thru November. I would love to see another species. I have only observed Ruby Throats. It would such a thrill to have visitors thru November! Nana, I think I mentioned earlier this year that here in Baton Rouge you can leave your feeders up year round. I live near LSU and we've been hosting winter hummers for the past 10 years. The winter birds are arriving now. I saw the first adult male Rufous at one of the feeders the other day. They stick around until February ... about the same time the Ruby-throateds return....See MoreWhen you take down your Christams decorations...
Comments (14)I take my decorations down this weekend, the weekend after all twelve days of Christmas are over. I actually saw a tree out for pick up on Christmas Day afternoon. It was so sad. On to the question....I do not re-arrange much after taking down the Christmas stuff. I used to rearrange more when I would move every few years. The stuff I had just wasn't purchased with any one particular space in mind. Each living room was a bit different size and shape and flooring color. I'd get one or two pieces before the next move and just try to make it all work somehow. However, I've lived here long enough to slowly assemble my livingroom stuff into a cohesive group. There are minor things I can and do change, but not much. Tabletop decorations and artwork are changed a bit every few months, but I wouldn't classify that as re-redecorating. This is, however, a time for a good thorough cleaning since I'll be getting behind and under everything anyway. One thing a friend does is to put up her "Christmas" village when her Christmas decorations get put away. Those villages really have very little Christmas to them, they are mostly just generic winter. For her, it keeps the physical stress of Christmas decorating AND visual stress of too much to admire at a minimum....See MoreWhen do you start Christmas decorating?
Comments (20)Welcome, Nancy! I'm glad to hear that we've lured another one out of Lurkdom. At the moment, I'm feeling woefully behind (once again!) with my holiday decorating. I'm just now putting up my Autumn & Thanksgiving decs. I'll take them down the day after Thanksgiving, which is when I decorate big time for Christmas. It takes many days to get it all up, as I put of 5 trees of various sizes and decorate every room but our master bedroom & bath (our dobie gets into them there, so I've stopped). And, like Lynnencfan, I tweak them continually after that ;^D I leave mine up until the day after Twelfth Night, January 6th. For us, that's the last day of Christmas. Lynn...See Moreschoolhouse_gw
