Kitty Litter in Laundry Room Question......
Comments (39)Four indoor cats here -- and one litter box! It is kept in the unused master bathroom bathtub! A hard decision -- but that spot has worked out SO well for us. Our litter box must be lidless because our cats literally outgrew the lid itself! LOL! The best thing of all is that the box cannot be seen because of the high walls of the tub AND the fact the tub is located behind the "swing" of the door so I love it! And the tub is easy to clean too! Our policy is scoop out the box several times during the day -- into a grocery bag, tie it shut, and stash in a tall brass garbage bin (which also has a medium sized plastic bag) that JUST fits in a empty slot between the vanity and the shower. The garbage can is emptied once a day out to the main outside garbage can. We were lucky that a litter container JUST fits in behind the brass bin too! So the extra-large main container of litter sits in the garage -- and the DH fills up the one in the bathroom. The scoop is kept in a pretty garbage bin just under-and-behind the toilet -- so it is out-of-sight too. But still handy! Along with a brush-and-pan to sweep up any scattered litter. And a deodorant spray like Febreeze (which works great BTW!) I would dearly love a better spot -- but this house has no basement nor a laundry room so this system has worked for all of us! Comments (7)We have 3 cats- and use Scoop Away cat litter. We keep it scooped out everyday and place the scooped out debris in the plastic grocery bags. We throw them right in the kitchen trash can and do not have a problem with it smelling as long as the bag is tied shut before disposal. Our kitchen can sits right in the kitchen. People come over and don't even know we have cats because they stay in my son's large room. The only time we have odor is when they first use the box or when he forgets to clean it out. Some may not agree but they all 3 use the same box and always have- he completely empties the box and cleans thoroughly about once monthly using cleanser and a toilet brush and lets air dry completely outside for awhile. The Scoop Away cat litter is the BEST we have found for odor control and I have tried everything on the market. One of our cats is 11 so we have had lots of time to do the research. We keep the litter scoop laying next to the box in one of those plastic containers like salad comes in from the grocery store and we just give it a good cleaning when the box gets cleaned- we let it soak for a few minutes in the litter box and then just scrub it with the toilet brush and rinse it well and let it air dry. The Scoop Away is not the cheapest cat litter out there but you can generally find it on sale and you don't have to change it as often as the less expensive brands. Make sure to put a good 2 inches of the litter in the box so it really soaks up the urine and clumps well. Hope this helps-...See MoreWhere do you keep your...
Comments (24)# Keys, and other daily items (access badges, wallets, purses, etc.) Keys are kept on a key holder (decorative black iron rack) on our laundry room wall (this is actually our "real" entry into our home. Access badge and wallet stay in my purse. When I get home from work, I put my purse and tote into a deep drawer in my desk (built-in desk in our living room). # Mail - DH picks it up each day at our PO Box. He drops recyclable junk mail into the recycle bin at the post office (those things w/o personal info on them). Other mail is brought home. Bills go into a sorter in his home office. He places my mail on our kitchen island - I pick it up when I come in from work and handle then. # Pet leashes - These are only used for trips to the vet so we don't have to access them often (we have a large fenced back lawn for the pups to get in their exercise). They're stored in a stackable plastic organizer in our pantry with all the other pet supplies. Dog food (bought in 40# bags is also stored in our pantry in lidded containers. In our climate, summers are super hot and we can't store any food items (pet or human) in our garage/we have no basement. # Extra keys (car, house, mail, whatever - but the extras, not the ones you use frequently). These are kept in a kitchen drawer in a little white organizing bin. Keys that we use often are kept on the laundry room wall rack (car, truck, tractor, riding mowers, auto gate opener, well house, storage building/barn, trailer hitch, etc.). Can you tell by now that we live on a farm? :) # Extra household things such as air freshener refills, light bulbs, candles, etc. Light bulbs are kept in the cabinet above our washer/dryer in the laundry room - we have cabinets that go to the ceiling and this is where we keep items we don't use that often. Foo foo items (candles, melting wax, diffusers, plug in refills, were kept in a lower kitchen cabinet but began taking over too much space. Now, they're stored in an antique cabinet in our guest room. # Shoes (Stay in the closet? Stay where you enter/exit most often? Garage?) Living on a farm, we do have shoes that are meant for outside only. I work in an office, so work and casual shoes, sandals, etc. are in our master bedroom closet. Gardening clogs, rubber boots, DH's outdoor boots and shoes, are kept in our garage on a 3-shelf stainless stand with wire shelving - to allow wet shoes to dry. # Pet food (esp. large dog food bags) .... oops - answered this above....See MoreWhere is your kitty litter box
Comments (7)In our custom built home (that we lost last year in a wildfire) we had the kitty boxes in our mechanical room (furnace, water heater, etc.) that was just off the mud room. We had the builder frame out a nice “hole” in the wall so we didn’t have to keep the door open, and they could come and go. We blocked it off when we had parties, etc. so the kitties didn’t escape to the outside with people coming in and out. In our new home, we’ll put them under the stairs in the basement - there’s a storage area there with a door (though we’ll have to get used to keeping the door open a crack. I am a sucker - making the DH put in an outlet there so I can put a night light so the kitties aren’t using the boxes in the dark :)...See Morecattyles
