Problem with my glasses, can any one help me?

I am very allergic to a lot of things and in the last 5 years learned that I am allergic to the nose pads that you get with your glasses now. The ones that bend, I believe there are silicone and they tell me they are non-allergenic. Well, I am allergic to them. Just got new glasses and again I can't wear them. Just did a test, wore my old ones (they have the pads that will not bend, hard plastic) for 3 days with no issues. An hour ago I put on the new glasses and within a half hour my eyes are running and itching.

I have looked online for these pads, but have not had any luck finding them. We live in a small town and do not have lots of eye docs to check in with.

We are going to Florida, but when we get back I am going to contact the local Lions Club and see if I can get the pads off of old glasses.

Right now I have just 2 pair of pads and they are both old. I take them off and soak them in Hydrogen peroxide to keep them clean, but they are yellowed. Would love to find some new ones.

I figure I need 10 pair to make it thru my life, with nice pads.

I search on the internet, but I'm not a very good searcher.

Ever consider plastic frames?..you don't need nose pads..wherever you bought those glasses should let you exchange them and choose some that you can wear..

Hi Grannyiu, A Marine clear sealant is used to protect boats and such that are on the water. I typed in "marine clear sealant" in my web browser line and one of the sites that came up was Home Depot - I was able to copy the below into this post. This product is in a tube like window sealant. One of the gals in the Garden Junk forum using a marine varnish to protect items that she is putting outdoors in the elements. She used a marine varnish on a garden bench that was made out of a bed frame and then she painted it and sealed it with the marine varnish. It is a stonger sealant than just a spray on type you find at Michael's or Joann's craft stores to seal your decorative painting works. I would assume Home Depot or other home building store like that (Lowe's for one) will carry the sealant/varnish in a liquid form in a paint can container and you could brush it on. The anti short cycle is a added feature on a 20 year old unit.They are cheap to install and can be purchased at any HVAC supply house(very universal).Most digital t-stats have built in anti short cycle also.

Thanks! I only started growing succulents this Spring, and got into mesembs in July :P Can't really tell you how long it would take, since mine hasn't gone through regeneration yet, but I think usually it would take the whole winter to do so, so perhaps 3-4 months? Keep an eye on the mushy parts, if it is getting infested with bugs you have to act quick. I've only dealt with mealy bugs and usually using 50/50 rubbing alcohol X water spray to wipe it off or spray the plant would do. I would wait for others to chime in on this, I don't know perhaps you could just remove the mushy part of the plant already so it doesn't spread... Yeah I also have a split rock (pics to follow) the Royal Flush, when I got it I was adviced here not to pot them with Lithops since their watering regime is quite different. The Pleiospilos could get water any time of the year, while Lithops is usually kept dry in winter. However, you're on the right track about no watering when it is regenerating. Make sure they only have 2 pairs of leaves at maximum, and I would water only when it becomes quite soft to the touch as well, if it's hard and turgid then it is not in need of water. This when I first potted it in late June: Flowered in August: Now regenerating slow and steady (Oct-Dec): Through these pics you can sort of see how "fast" the old leaves finally shriveled away to nothingness. And below was my watering regime for it: July-August, normal watering of once every 10-14 days since it was getting ready for flower. September-October, watering every 14-20 days since flower died off and plant is not doing much November-December, ZERO watering so far since I saw the new little leaves saying hello, and it is looking happy so far.

It looks like everything isn't getting enough water. The amount of water a plant needs is highly dependent on the soil that it's in, and how much heat/sunlight it gets. That soil looks like it's very fast draining so you may have to water more than 1 time a day, and for longer periods of time (try to keep the flow low). The perlite mixed into the soil makes it drain really fast and the roots dry out shortly after the soil does. I have a lot of plants in containers and I use an automatic watering system for them. They get 10 minutes of water every morning from 1/2 gph emitters for 1 gal containers, and 1 gallon emitters for the 2-3 gallon containers. Anything larger than that and I use variable emitters. In summer, I change it to 8 mins, 2 times a day. You can get one of those timers for your hose and just leave it on real low for a few mins each day for these. As far as if everything is savable, everything except maybe the first picture has a really good chance of being saved, and that first plant might be savable but I'd give it a lot of shade for a few days and definitely give it regular and long watering.

Allergist recommended I stay with the Titanium frames. Never know what is in the plastic.

I will see about ordering some of them and try them out, worth the $$$ to me. Will be going to the optometrist this week and find out what size I need to order. Told ya I was a lousy searcher. Thanks so much.

Wow, there sure are great searchers here. these are 13mm, will have to wait til I see my optometrist on size. Will print out this pic. Won't see allergist until next May.

I noticed the same company selling the Titanium also makes ceramic, available Amazon. Good luck, hope you find something comfortable.

Ebay has tons of different ones in different materials and sizes but you must get the type fitting that matches your frame . I have ordered several different ones to find the best fit and feel . Those titanium ones are screw on are yours screw on? Size is not that important but the method of attachment is essential to match . For example my frame is by Ray Ban composed of carbon fiber and titanium , totally non allergenic , but Ray Ban has a very unique unusual bayonet type connection to the nose pads . I can only get that exact same type . There's a few different common types and they are available but you have to know what you are looking for .

I'm an optician. Have you asked for non silicone nose pads to be put on your new glasses? Tell them you are allergic to the silicone. They are available. If they don't have any in the back perhaps they can take a pair off a frame (replacing them with silicone pads) and put the non silicone on your glasses.

They can probably order you some, also. They will have to order a vial or package with several pairs and there could be a charge.

Silicon and silicone are not the same thing, and I think happi meant to say silicone.

I mention this not to be pedantic for a minor spelling mistake but rather because each is the correct spelling for two very unlike materials and the topic is choices of different materials.

Kathyg, I can't thank you enough for writing this post. For months I have been having trouble with my eyes itching and tearing. It never occurred to me that it was the nose pads on my new glasses. Yesterday I put on my old glasses and my eyes are fine. I will be making a visit to my optician. Thanks again.
