Whew! Okay, one less boob light in the world, like sailorgirl said! lol Fidoprincess, we do have one of the newer squarish boxes. The ground wire is a mystery, though, as it only came out of the old light fixture itself and was not inside the ceiling box-- I'm looking into making sure we're okay with the way we have the light "grounded" to the ground screw, so I'll be posting this on the Lighting forum too! The old light had a ground wire that ran from the ground screw to a metal part of the old light. I thought the ground wire was supposed to come out of the ceiling box. Anyone know? Meanwhile, we're keeping it off until I find out if we did the ground wire correctly. The new semi flush light sure looks pretty and gives off plenty of light!

Photo is calculated to be more subtle, I suppose, but it might be same stuff displayed differently. And red ceramics are not shown, at least not in photo. ___ On another note, I just happened to be in Red Wing, Minn. today. In an antiques shop, they had a number of Red Wing Pottery pieces to look at up close. They still give me some good feelings, despite all the years since my extended family set table with them. Keaton shows us that homeowners can blend rough beams, fave sayings, vintage plates, &c with the OTK. This is one true thing.

You will need all your wits about you when the darn fool sharing your road while distracted by his phone creates a sudden traffic crisis. We see others driving distracted all the time. We could immediately reduce traffic deaths and accidents by not allowing civilian vehicles to take or receive any but emergency calls while the vehicle is in motion. Some trucking companies already attempt to do this; their company phones will not operate when the truck is in motion. There is no personal call more important than driving FOCUSED. Again, multi-tasking is a MYTH. Elmer -- Yes, I'm talking about a take-overs or shut-downs. When people put 'all their eggs' onto a cloud, what happens if the cloud 'floats away'? In "Handmaid's Tale" -- a *story* -- religious oligarchs take over the nation, controlling everyone's ability to buy, sell, move about, communicate, eat, breathe. If everyone eventually puts his whole life online...wouldn't it be easy to freeze or seize it? Some of my concern is prompted by learning that even in remote Chinese villages, people not only have cell phones, but have every aspect of their lives 'on' them: Their identity papers, their savings, their pensions. Phones replace cash and credit card transactions. It's "I Am My Cell Phone". This led me to think about bandits holding people's computers hostage, and then to, "Why not kidnap the entire Virtual Person?" That led to, "Why not take over a whole nation? And now we are back to "Handmaid's Tale".

Last year the then-Oceanic/Time/Warner cable box could be controlled for volume by its remote. Before we arrived this month, new owner Spectrum (Charter) rewired with "digital" cable. They provided a new box and matching remote for the BR box, but left the old box and its remote in the LR. When we couldn't get that remote to control for volume, Spectrum provided a new remote, but not a new cable box. Nope. Still couldn't change volume. Today we will unhook the LR HD-DVR cable box and take it and the new-style remote into the Spectrum office. We are dropping the DVR service. We will get a non-DVR cable box -- and, I hope, a remote that will control volume. (Yeah, sure.) I foresee that we will have to re-do ALL of this if/when we replace the current TV. (sigh) artemis and Bob -- Most of our guests are like you. They are here to enjoy the island, not sit and watch "Days of Our Lives" (or whatever soaps exist today). We rent both via VRBO and an agency. (We can bump their bookings.) I see other people's ads that stress the GIANT TV setups; evidently a larger daily requirement than I'd have thought. You can see our condo and our competition -- 1BR 2Bath Ocean View at Maui Kamaole in South Kihei. I want to get the TV situation settled before calling a photographer for new photos of the condo. (We are the "Many Happy Returns" ad.) raee -- We are getting programming as part of the deal. At one time we had to pay extra for HD; not now. chloecat -- What is an Amazon Prime Box, please? I think we need cable just to get reception here; no OTA signal, and we are prohibited from installing a dish.
