Please help decide drape colour/pattern

Drapes are a huge expense and the pressure is on to decide today if Iwant them installed by Christmas (which I do)

Our home is largely unfurnished as we sold everything when we were building so not much to work with. Ive read online articles that state if you want to emphasize the window use darker drapes or if you like a more neutral palette go with neutrals or tone on tone.

The ceiling is 12' high. I was thinking the darker one to add some personality and to set off the copper surround of our fireplace...but 2 - 12'panels in a dark colour might weigh the room down and since we have no furniture it may end up clashing.

On the other hand the lighter colours seem "safer".

Also undecided on the pattern...looking to see if one seems more bedroom than the other . The drapes are for the great room.

They will be functioning drapes for privacy and insulation.

Wall paint colour is BM - cloud white

Please let me know your colour & pattern choice for this window/room.

"slate" (I think it has purple undertones...)

Linen in the large damask pattern. It will not limit your furniture selections.

I like the "natural" in the damask, as it seems warmer to complement the warmth of the copper. Since you live in snow country (apparently ;), I think dark draperies would provide too much contrast to the walls AND the outdoors certain times of the year. I think the lighter, mid range choices are a nice balance to both and safe isn't bad in draperies, esp since you can punch things up with furnishings and accessories as much as you want.

I think my best bet might be to install the rods and then give the two colors (or three, if I take a look at the green at BBB and think it might also be a possibility) a try. Right now, I'm still kind of torn between the SAND and the IVORY. I know the SAND blends in, but that might be what I want. OTOH, it may blend in too much and the IVORY might be better. Perhaps this is why I've put off dressing these windows for so long!!

thanks , I have decided on the 4 wide 2 tall (8 lites) since that is what my other windows have. The lites will be taller and skinnier thank the existing but it won't be as busy as the 4 wide 3 tall.

I don't think I'd do the panels at all. I think it seems to block out a lot of the light. The room looks very dark to me...I'd really want to take advantage of the sunlight. But if you plan to keep them, I do not think you can get away with less panels. On the side windows it appears that there isn't room to make the curtain rods wider. But in the middle I'd make them as wide as possible and hang the curtains as far out as you can. I think the panels match nicely with the new paint. But as pictured IRL it doesn't go at all. good luck! curtains are so tough.

I have a north facing living room. A decorator said I should paint it with a warm color to balance the cool north light. I did… And now it always looks dirty because of the light. I think it's very bad advice to try to "warm things up" with wall paint. I am going with cool blue grey walls next, because that's the color I get anyway. And I will "warm things up" in other ways like cordovan leather seating and a fake polar bear throw. If you hate painting, are you saying you want a neutral color wall paint? So a cool white is your best bet with a pale purple to blue grey next. Get some paper samples from whatever brand is most available near you. Hang those on different walls to choose what looks best on most walls at all times of day. I LOVE your view, your ceiling, and your windows.

Linen..but in this smaller pattern..even though I usually prefer bigger patterns-I just love this one more..it sparks imagination..

I agree with aprilneverends. Linen in the smaller pattern would be my first choice, but I also think the smaller pattern in the Natural would be equally nice. Such pretty selections!

You are very fortunate to have found a workroom to complete your project before Christmas! That being said, I really wouldn't be in a hurry. It's a big expense, take your time in making a choice. IMO, the lighter colors would be a safer bet and I actually like the 2nd choice.

My favorite is the linen in the large damask. The natural is nice as well. I don't think the slate works at all.

I just went back to look and realized the smaller pattern isn't shown in natural, but it I'll bet it will be lovely!
