Well, we're a bunch of junkies aren't we? Mine are all covered with buds right now. Even a couple of cuttings that haven't rooted have buds on them. I've got some cuttings rooted to go in spots that were left blank by Ike. My "soil" is pretty much pure sand, very alkaline, the water is alkaline, poor soil, every test says to add organic stuff. This soil just eats organic material alive. You can almost watch compost disappear. We have constant salt spray, I'm only about 7 blocks from the Seawall and 1/2 mile from the bay. And we know I'm not good at regular fertilizing. So if they'll grow here for me they will grow about anywhere, especially if they get real dirt, food and water!! Tally HO!

@puglvr1 They only bloom from the part that makes the "Y." I dont' honestly remember much about growing them in 9b. It seems they went semi-dormant and lost leaves, but didn't freeze back. They grow quickly, so if they die back, they will come back up and make "Ys" again next year. They usually bloom the first year. These were small cuttings when I planted them, and all of them are going to bloom eventually. @ut2nc You can buy the cuttings on eBay, or go to the Brugmansia exchange forum, and there is always someone giving cuttings away in the fall. You have to keep them safe from freezing over the winter, but they root very quickly. When I had them in SC, I would put the the trimmed limbs into a bucket on the back porch in the winter, and they would be rooted and ready to plant by spring.

I myself just started growing brugmansias...I bought some cuttings online ($1 a piece) late summer last year and very fortunate enough to see a couple of them bloom. Bought another batch in the fall but lost a couple of them (left them out too late) and bought more online 2 weeks ago (10 pcs. for $10 plus $5 shipping)--all 10 are now rooting very well in water inside the house.
