Detailed information on the origin of some named varieties is hard to come by, though I believe Fred Meyer did, indeed, have a hand in the creation of many familiar and unfamiliar varieties, with quite a few Cybister types and those originating from Papillio. I can't seem to find much information on Misty, as an individual bulb. It doesn't appear in "The Gardener's Amaryllis" by Veronica Read, and any other information I've come across is sketchy, at best... although, I didn't follow every link Google coughed up. I couldn't guess at the heredity of Misty... such theorizing is not my forte. Now, if my husband were interested in Amaryllids, he'd be able to accurately name the parentage... as a lifelong canine enthusiast and successful breeder, his knowledge of canine ancestry is unparalleled and his theorizing of crosses uncanny. Seriously, he can accurately state the ancestry of any dog, most easily the Molosser types. But that's part of lifelong involvement with, and study of a species, I suppose. Certain genetic crosses do tend to be weaker than others, though, which could apply to Misty, quite simply. And if one of its characteristics is a particular difficulty in culture, there we have it... it's just not a strong or forgiving bulb to grow for the average gardener. It probably requires certain variables that the average grower doesn't think about, or can't reproduce. My Misty bulb is still viable, still quietly sitting in its clay pot on the windowsill, but it's not doing much of anything. It grows leaves occasionally, but has only seen fit to bloom the one time. I'd qualify it as a rather "sleepy" bulb. :-)

Toni, you hit it right on the nail!!! Your right, just so happens that this particular plant is growing in soiless mix in which the particles of bark are a little to big and there is lots of air space. This is the first and only plant I planted in this batch of soil when I first started to learn how to make it. I know I made it incorrectly, because the particle sizes are too big. All my other soil I made, I used smaller particles of bark which has worked perfect for me. And now that I perfected it, I should repot thsi tree in spring into the perfected soiless that stays moist a little longer than a day at a time...lol All my other plants in this perfected soiless mix can go for a 2-3 days under lots of light which I provide all winter, but this Calamondin tree is in a soil that I have to watch and wet everyday. I suppose to much air getting into the soil. A couple of times I forgot to water, and I think instead of the tree wilting, the leaves just go into shock and dry up hard on the branch because they are thicker older leaves. With this tree, you can never tell if it doesn't have enough water, because it doesn't wilt when too dry like my other trees! Since I have been watching this one more closely, and watering everyday now, I am not loosing anymore leaves. YES!!! See, I guess we can hurt a tree from underwatering too... :-) Thanks alot everyone for all your help and thoughts!

One time in my younger days, I was walking down the sidewalk and was passing a parked car. In that car was a young couple and a prattling baby. The man was in the driver's seat and the young woman was holding the child with her window open. Just as I pass by, the baby looking out the side window, brightens, and loudly coos, "Daddy, Daddy" in my direction. I was embarrased and kept walking, but I couldn't help notice the man looking at his wife, and then at me. These people were complete stangers to me, and I never learned what the outcome was - It could have been interesting.

It hasn't happened to me but I received a book a while ago that contained stories and anecdotes about Harry Kalas, the long time and much beloved announcer for the Philadelphia Phillies who passed away early last year. At the end the author added a note to look for an upcoming book 'For Phillies Fans Only' and asked for any funny stories about chance encounters with players or anything amusing having to do with the Phillies ball club. I sent in something funny I heard during a broadcast years ago. The author phoned me at home and said it would probably be in the book!!! Also two years ago I got an email saying that an independent film was being made about nurses in the Vietnam War. It stars Faye Dunaway, Amy Acker, Ben Vereen, Tom Sizemore and others. It takes place at the 24th Evac Hospital and I was actually stationed there. They asked for photo's of what the place looked like and I emailed 6 or 8 of them. I was told that I will get a 'Special Thanks' screen credit at the end of the movie. It has been released in limited areas - not here yet - but I'll be interested to see my name, hopefully, if it ever gets here. Between you & me I don't think it was very well received. Maybe it'll make it to DVD at least.
