Olychik is right-don't be in any hurry..every time I panic it's a miss..last time I panicked I don't have a sleeping solution for guests, so I got this daybed..well what I didn't know the remodel would take exactly a year longer..I had tons of time..and I really not a fan of this bed lol.

On the other hand -if you really really like something right away-don't let it go. It's Craigslist..things are gone in a minute if they're nice and well-priced.

oh i see that, they have a newer post, then it's 395 lol plus $95 so $490 does seem like a whole a lot for the dresser I like it, but I'm not sure I LOVE it. I'll try to see if they can go down a 100 bucks and keep looking around.

Also, the person about the blue & gold dresser will give me a final quote for the delivery tomorrow, and she said she's willing to shed off the original price, so it will be likely $325-$360 including delivery. It's so stunning! But after doing measurements with blue tape, it looks too big. :(

I've read through the thread and like the advice stardust23 is getting about colors, vintage furniture, etc. My question is about furniture placement. In general decorating, do beds need to "stick out" into a room, or is it acceptable to push one long side up to a wall? My inclination would be to place a relaxing chair in the corner between the two windows, taking advantage of the light. I'd rotate the bed 90 degrees and push it against (or close to) the wall so the head would be where the chair was, and the feet would face the door. I'd put dressers, more art, etc, on the wall where the bed was. Thoughts? would this end up with too much against the walls, too much empty space in the middle of the room? Just curious ... thanks.

When I was little we always had beds pushed up against the wall:) Technically though these weren't "bedroom" beds..they were sofa beds, and you kept the bedding in a special dresser/shelf in the closet for a day, and made the bed again each night.

I think here where houses are generally larger beds are "real beds", they are sort of a focal point, the bedding gets more decorative meaning( ours weren't seen to anyone but us or guests), and that's why they go to the middle of the room, especially if they're bigger size, say queen or king..two people have access from both sides, and it's easier to make the bed too-bigger beds are harder to make in general..you go around it and around it..:)

Otherwise-I think there's no faux pas, you place the furniture so it makes most sense in your room and to you personally. There are all sorts of preferences and superstitions as to where a bed should be turned. For example many consider it bad luck to sleep with your feet towards the door, etc.

I have other pet peeves-for example I hate to sit with my back to the door.

Usually a person will almost instinctively know which arrangement works for him. True, sometimes it doesn't make sense in terms of a flow in a room.

But you can always try this and that..at any point of the time. The only thing some furniture is freakishly heavy..but with help, you can reassess and rearrange the room as much as wanted/needed. Did that not once.

I bought a full sized bed for my DD recently, pushed it against the wall. It's a real bed but I went with a lower profile, and no headboard-specifically so I can push it against the wall (the wall also has low sitting window so a headboard would interfere with it). Because otherwise we'd have less space for other pieces that have to be there.

Nickel, that was my suggestion for rearranging the furniture, too, but only if it didn't snug up against the wall (too hard to make the bed, change the sheets, etc). I thought it would leave a nice area from the windows to the closet (which I am assuming is to the right of the bed now, but it's not pictured). I would put the rug -or maybe a new one- and the chair in that area, for a nice little sitting area.

I see what you guys mean about rotating the bed to where the chair was before and maybe putting a lounging chair where the 2 windows are. I think if a writing desk and a bunch of art could be next to the windows on that wall, that would give me more motivation to use the desk since there would be more light there.

But the problem is there is no outlet for a night stand on the other side of the room if I were to rotate it on the wall where the chair was and the stand is. Maybe I could get a really long extension cord and use the printer outlet. I'm not sure, but this is a good idea that I'll see if i can play around with. I think I'll keep things the same now, until I get a desk since since if I rearrange now, that whole area will be empty. It's definitely a good idea that I haven't thought of before!

Finding a dresser alone, is such a difficult task so far. I think I'm trying to work on getting the main pieces, dresser and new cream bed comforter set/duvet.

yet still-can I give you advice you didn't ask for? as somebody who went through this for quite a few years..don't buy comforter sets. they put there stuff you might not even need, like valances etc..and it's all samey, and the quality is generally not great. Look online for deals on bedding on sites like Gilt.com or Ruelala or OneKingsLane..look in the stores like TJMaxx or Tuesday Morning..buy separates that you need and can mix and match, and that are of higher, sometimes much higher quality.

The best "white sales" are in January, after holidays..but I believe now is not such a bad time either.

Okay guys, I've narrowed it down to two dressers, ones that you guys posted. They are both available for pickup this weekend, I basically have to decide by tomorrow.

Are they from the same owner? If so, I'd go look at them and pick the one that seems in the best shape (no smells, no sticking drawers, etc.)

I think the gray one is a little more timeless looking, with really cute knobs and think that color would look better with cream bedding that you are considering. But the white would look ok, too and the color could easily be changed, if necessary.

I like the gray because of the color, and the white one because of the drawers and dimensions..:)

I know, both look so great! Wish I can get both. I'm leaning toward the grey one, looks like it's listed as excellent condition whereas the white one is good condition, and its price is better too. I think it's grey although the seller has it listed as pale blue, so maybe it's a blueish grey.

Besides a dresser, what other pieces do you plan on purchasing for the room? You don't want 4 pieces of furniture of all different colors/finishes. Have you definitely decided on any pieces you plan on buying? I think you need a plan before you make any purchases.

If you like the gray and think it's a color you will be happy with, you can easily pick up more pieces for your room as needed and paint them gray, too. It could be cohesive with color. The gray and cream bedding would be gorgeous, with your little bit of orange in the drapes.

As you can see, from just looking for 2 days on CL, you are not going to be without some fabulous options, even if you don't buy the gray one right now. Personally, I'd probably buy an already done piece and then find some smaller pieces to practice painting/refinishing on.

That's very true. I think I'll go for the gray piece for now, to at least have a starting point, and then later maybe I can get a desk or other pieces that are at a very lost cost, that I can try painting. I really like the idea of gray, cream bedding, and tints of orange too. What i'm curious about is why the seller named the gray dresser "blue" in the listing. I'm hope if I get it, it will be more gray than blue.

I have a feeling that the seller named the dresser blue because it's blue..)) But go look at it. Some people see colors..well, differently. Or call them differently. Most chances though we don't see the true color because it's photographed in such and such light..

I actually looked up the color online. On the listing it's called "antique blue dresser" and antique blue is like a pale blueish-gray color. I was excited about it being gray, maybe it can still work it probably has elements of gray in it even if it is blue.

I didn't get it, for some reason I was a little hesitant and didn't want to rush in just getting something. I'm hoping maybe there is something better out there if I keep looking everyday that i haven't seen yet.

Wise decision. What pieces in particular are you looking to purchase? I think I mentioned in an earlier post to have a plan for the room before you purchase anything. Also, are you willing to paint/refinish?

That CL dresser seemed really nice but something told me to not get it.

I know I definitely need a dresser, and I also would like to get a writing desk, and then later on some art work to put over the desk, and eventually a chair perhaps. I was thinking of just focusing on dresser now so that it's won't be too overwhelming. I am willing to paint/refinish, I'm hoping it's easy enough for a first timer to do and I'm thinking maybe it would be cheaper but also willing to buy an already finished piece.

I also need to think of the arrangement of the room before I buy anything. For ex, if I eventually move the bed to where that chair I had was, and using the wall by the window for a desk, I'm not sure where I would put the dresser. If I keep things the same now, I can put it where the stand if now of the left of the bed.

I feel kind of lost with this whole thing now. Finding the right pieces is harder than I thought.

If you want help with any of that:

Could you post a floor plan of your room with all the dimensions? Like the height of the bottom of the windows, etc? Size of your bed and night stand? Show door location and closet, etc. There are some people here who might be able to help with room arrangements and sizes of pieces you could get and where they could fit.

does it have a box spring? What size is it? (full or..?)

Yeah maybe taking down dimensions would be a start. I'll see if I can do so, it's a full sized bed. So doesn't take up much room but still seems like the bed is the main focus and really stands out. There's a lot of space to the right of the bed where the lamp is.

Try to put it along the wall, see if you like it? Also. Do you use a headboard for prompting when reading for example? Some people do some don't. One of the ideas can be removing the headboard and the footboard, making it into a big daybed looking bed, with pillows even along the wall maybe...but of course only if you don't like the bed as it is now.

Or leave it as is in the middle, and yes, take dimensions..also both dressers and desks can function as night table of sorts, depending on their height etc.

What is the black stand, right across the bed, where the table fan is?

Yeah I think I'm going to think a lot about the placement of the bed, possibly get rid of the headboard, the black stand is something random I got for $10 to place the printer.

Also here's is an update, I finally got a dresser!! I really love it and it matches the curtains well. I think it looks way better. I'm thinking of eventually changing the knobs and getting more cool looking knobs from pier 1 or anthropologie. I also got a new lamp with a ceramic base and white/cream bedding, now I just need to get a bed skirt that matches.

Although I still think something is missing to really give the room a wow look. I'm thinking of maybe getting a cool lamp or jewelry boxes to put on the dresser.

I'm not sure whether to hang the picture above the dresser. It looks a little small when it's leaning against the wall.

Love that dresser, so unique and cute! And the cream bedding really helps freshen the room.

Omigosh, that IS an adorable and perfect dresser. The bedding is just the right touch, too! I think I'd hang the art, esp if you're going to leave it in that space, since it's the first thing seen as you enter the room.

Is the dresser a CL find? Wondering if the same person did it as the others you were looking at?

eta: As far as a wow something for the room, I think your pic and dresser both are pretty "wow" and the bed also makes a statement. Be careful of getting too many wows in one space. :)
