I didn't even see the smaller pictures load before thinking Hah -- the colors I was thinking -- and moving on (they were tearing out my tile floors today -- sneaking any internet time during the day was a treat). Looking closer, the walls appear gray on my screen too, and that works too. Looks like one of what I initially saw as two shades of blue may be one grey and one blue. If you don't have the bedding and that's what you want, get it and then it will be much easier to pick a color from it or inspired by it to work with everything, especially since it has a touch of yellow. Has some beige too, but they are compliments to the cooler colors.

The bead board appears top be oak. Oak is relatively easy to stain as it takes the stain evenly,needing no pre-stain sealer. One of the functions of stain is to not only impart color initially, but to keep it from turning darker with age. If it has been in place for several months, it has probably already reach its dark point. You could stabilize it and lighten it somewhat by giving it a white "pickling stain". the white pigment gets stuck in the grain and any indentations. Hopefully you have some scraps to practice on before commiting to the whole room. If putting a clear varnish over the paneling, the water based urethane varnishes will dry clear and remain so. Oil based varnishes initially are slightly amber and get more so with age. WB urethanes are also much less odor and VOC's , important when working in inhabited spaces. Both spray well, if you have access to conventional air spray equipment. At least two coats would be advised for uniformity of sheen. I would finish and protect the stained paneling before doing the other paint work. If you should accidentally get paint on the bare wood grain, it will be very difficult to get rid of the blotch, which would show through the stain.

This is pretty much the furniture layout, due to doorway one wall with bathroom door same wall on other end. Closet door on another. I tried moving the furniture around including angling bed in corner. I once had the bed on the wall to left of bed, but that has one window as well & it looked more awkward there with no room for side tables. I would consider painting the furniture, eventually, but that is a big job with so much more else to be done. I can live with it for now. Just need suggestions for the curtains.

I am also always drawn to this inspiration pic of jute/sisal look with light gray walls too, but my husband likes gray as he thinks it won’t show as much dirt and wear....
