Miele washer/dryer
Comments (18)Hey, I know this is an old thread, but thought I'd jump in for what it is worth... We were a test household for the Touchtronic washers & dryers, set up by a close relative working in the company who, bless her heart, thought she was doing a nice thing. Over the course of two years I cannot tell you how many times one or both was not working. They always sent a service tech within a week, but with 5 of us in the house a week with no washer or dryer left mountains of dirty laundry and kids wearing dirty uniforms to school (we can't have a clothesline where we live). They replaced the dryer twice during the test period, the washer once. If I'd had any money at all, I would have gone out and bought a cheap Kenmore or something, but that was not the case. At the end of the test period they collected all the test models and shipped them back to Germany for inspection because they had been such dismal failures. I was "rewarded" for the 2 years of inconvenience with two new machines, which were by now available in stores and ostensibly had all the kinks worked out. The washer has been fine but I am currently on my third service call for the month of June alone with the dryer. I am told by my relative that this was Miele's first foray into the "large capacity" world and they tried to cut production costs dramatically and met with massive failure. Apparently "large capacity" residential-use washers & dryers weren't a big item in Europe, so they had production of only smaller-capacity, efficient machines down to an exact science. The word is that yes, Miele is scrapping this particular line of washers and dryers and the new ones are rolling out right now (Spring/Summer '09). So I wish you luck and hope you have successful laundry experience. When my service warranty runs out next year, I will be getting an old-school, woefully inefficient dryer from Craigslist for $50 because I suspect it will ACTUALLY DRY THE CLOTHES. :) BTW, I LOVE my Miele dishwasher and both Miele vacuums. They are problem-free (knock wood!) and work wonderfully well, and my sister has 2 Miele wall ovens and a 6-burner cooktop, all fabulous and operating smoothly since their install 3 years ago. I took me a long time to get over the shock at owning a Miele appliance that was NOT top-notch....See MoreNeed help choosing FL Washer/Dryer, Bosch 800, Samsung, LG ?
Comments (14)mysteryclock I just had my Axxis dryer fixed once and for all. What an ordeal. Really would have been easy if I got the right repairman right off the bat. I've been all over this forum trying to figure out what has been up with my machine. I knew it wasn't right. It just took forever to dry and then eventually i kept getting this huge puddle of water under the machine after a while. It was drying sometimes and acting funny at others. Ultimately after 4 service calls and replacing all the parts on the entire dryer, it turned out to be the heater. For anyone with a condensation dryer, i cannot stress this enough- get your machine checked once in a while. I had 4 blissful years with it and it was telling me gently that something was wrong by slowly wigging out. If i would have had it looked at when it was just acting weird, I would have had to replace far less! I got a GREAT Bosch tech, who i would highly recommend to anyone in the LA/Pasadena area. It took me a while to find him but he fixed the problem in less than an hour once he diagnosed it. If anyone wants to have their Bosch or other German appliance fixed, call Ricky at Appliance Masters. I've heard some of their techs are not so hot. This guy was a senior tech and he was the best. After all the drama with this machine and service call after service call, i'd say this guy has a halo and angel wings! He fixed it in less than a hour once the parts were ordered. These high end German appliances are great unless something is off. I have had probably 5 repairmen with my various German appliances in the last 6 months. All of the good ones said the same thing- great appliances unless you are having a problem with them. I guess the moral of the story is- it's better to pay a bit to maintain and get check ups once in a while rather than wait until the machine goes up in flames or in my case out in a puddle of vaguely warm water. All it needed was a new heater, not a complete overhaul, which i wound up with anyway. In my house full of Gaggenau, Liebherr and Bosch, call me converted. I'm going to get these insanely expensive appliances looked at frequently so they stay calibrated. It seems to make all the difference in the world. I'm humbled and feel kind of bad that this was such a colossal headache. I still love my washer and dryer. It's the best purchase I've made, with a close second being the Gaggenau dishwasher. I love me some German appliances!!...See MoreLG washer shrinking clothes on cold! Please help!
Comments (94)@HU-410414692 Thanks so much for explaining why clothing and household items I've washed for years in cold, now shrink in Samsung's version of "cold". I've ruined too many loved items, things I've ALWAYS machine-washed. So thinking it must have been my error, and I'd forgotten to change the temp setting, I'd try it again. After several such shrinkage mishaps, I knew for certain I was using the cold setting. So I no longer wash anything shrinkable in my machine, even on delicate. I live in Southern California on a raised foundation house. The water doesn't get that cold in the first place, so if this machine adds warm water, as you explained, then I'm screwed for washing wools. I suppose I could wash on delicate in cold on very cold days in winter only and keep my fingers crossed. But it's not worth the risk. And that doesn't happen that often anyway. This shrinkage was the first thing I called Samsung about when I first bought the set. Samsung sent out a repairman because it was under warranty and he couldn't find anything wrong. (roll eyes). The company line was deny, deny, deny. I was so concerned about the machine destroying my things that I forgot to ask about the front coming off every time I opened the detergent drawer. I solved that issue by never using liquids At this point, the set is barely functioning as a washer and dryer for me. I might as well beat my clothes on rocks and dry them on tree branches. If I had the money for a new set, I'd set these on fire, I hate them that much. And I couldn't in good faith sell them to anyone else. Anyone considering buying Samsung: Please reconsider. You'll regret it. Samsung doesn't deserve your business. In fact, there are many other reviews here like mine. Here's just one of many: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/2411936/don-t-buy-a-samsung-washer-or-dryer#n=247...See MoreMiele washer alternative.
Comments (29)LiveBetter, sorry for the delay. I have to say I like the look of the Electrolux. People have been hesitant because of the door, but I think you will be fine. I like the large drum. The Whirlpool is not bad either - it has a large washing capacity and they have been reliable machines. Not as exciting, but workhorses and good service. People like the Bosch, but it is smaller. LG, I am not sure about, but I have not read cleaning complaints. Just remember, when you are washing, if you stuff the machine your things have more of a tendency to wrinkle, so of course the smaller machines will have to wash more loads. Also, when you read the boards notice what the complaints are about - not the cleaning ability, but the problems with a machine or the service. So who is really to know what machine cleans better other than whites in the machines that can get really hot water - the 220 volt (which I would surely love to see one day as the reputation is almost mythical)? I do hope you will let me know what you choose and if you like it. I think I would try the Electrolux if I were you, but the Miele is nice too - just not as convenient if you have lots of laundry to do. By the way I have read a few things about Miele that I disagree with. I do not think the Miele are noisy at all. I have read that more than once on this board - and they don't shake either. Another worry I read often is whether they can wash king sized quilts, ect, - there is no problem in doing so....See Moredeeageaux
