Struggling Kentia Palm

This palm has been slowly losing fronds ever since we bought it in the summer. It sits in a corner that doesn't get much natural light, so I've tried to only water it when the fronds started to hang low. But from the beginning there were fronds turning yellow at the base, and getting brown / crispy at the leaves. I cut each off as if dies. On Friday I gave it a thorough watering (drained well) and moved it in front a large window in the hopes of salvaging it. This morning two of the tallest fronds are dry brown and on their way out. The plant is near a heater so I wonder if that's part of the issue. Any help appreciated!

Mine is doing the exact same thing! I'm also concerned about the radiator and the dry heat it produces. We bought a humidifier yesterday and moved the plant away from the radiator (unfortunately that also means moving it away from the window so we had to buy UV lights). Any advice from anyone else who has had experience with this and how to help it would be great!

I am comforted knowing I'm not the only one though it is so frustrating! These plants aren't cheap!

Kentia is among one of the easier palms for the house. I would also suggest Rhapis (Lady palms), and various Chamaedorea species for those who struggle with palms. Of course, the most available species is one of the most notoriously difficult (Ravenea rivularis; Majesty Palm). Regarding your plant, there is no indication how long you have had the plant. It may just be acclimating to new conditions. It isn't sitting under an air-conditioning duct, is it? Also, how sure are we that it is a Kentia, I was inclined to thinking it might be a Dypsis lutescens (but not sure from here).

Keeping that palm in a pot without a drain hole is a sure way of killing it. You need to get it out of there immediately and repot it in a pot with a drain hole and fast draining potting mix..

It may be equally frustrating to hear, that they are actually quite easy (or should be). Mine is in the basement under two florescent bulbs for the Winter and out side the rest of the year (in part shade). They may be objecting to the dry, indoor heat (these palms become popular in Britain due to their tolerance of shade and downright chilly interiors). Those window look huge so light must be decent unless you're in a very cloudy climate (they don't need direct sun but those windows should provide enough light. Don't neglect watering..., they don't have the best drought tolerance. Mine probably lost a leaf recently too due a missed watering.
