Wall color for antique, golden oak bedroom furniture?
Comments (18)We have Lexington dark oak victorian style bedroom furniture, so I definitely feel your pain trying to choose a complentary paint color. Our bedroom was painted a version of off white for quite a few years, took a back seat to other rooms mainly because I really couldn't find a paint color I liked that would look good with the dark oak. When I used the SW Blonde in my LR/DR, I painted a a bit in our MBR to try it with our furniture. Loved how worked with our furniture, so problem solved as to what color for our master. The Blonde seems to be a completely different color in our MBR than in our LR/DR, mainly due to different lighting. If you don't want to go with the gold tones, I would try a sample of the green as pictured in mclarke's post. That green color was one of the many colors we sampled for our LR/DR before going with SW Blonde. Please post a pic when you paint. Would love to see what you choose....See MoreHow would you position this small antique oak cabinet?
Comments (18)Sigh…. Its size for the space is partly why I didn’t buy it the first time I saw it a month or more ago. I do have a couple of other places I could put it, but I already have pieces I am cleaning up / repairing for those spots. Plus I do need a home for the magazines. If it is not easy to put them away, I know I won’t. If I don’t use this piece there, I will have to bring back the small table I had there before, whose wood does not match. I agree that it does look like it was originally part of a gentleman’s dresser, and was taken off. My piece has a new (ish) floor which you can see inside the door section. Someone went to a lot of trouble, as the addition is done very well, actually set into tongue and groove strips. Plus they added round metal feet of the kind you hammer in. I put felt pads on those immediately so I can slide it out without damaging my hardwood floor. I could add legs to elevate it, but that would be yet another project to add to a long list. I’ll use it where it is for now (sideways) and wait for inspiration to strike as to a possible other location. Finish color is best in that room, though....See MoreAntique chairs on the front porch?
Comments (9)Poly chips when damaged. It is almost impossible to spot repair those chipped areas, meaning the entire area/piece has to be refinished. And, of course, the chipped areas look funky and no longer protect the wood. Use paint or varnish(not poly varnish). And be aware, the water will degrade the bottoms of the rockers/legs. Applying finish to those areas will help protect, but the rockers will wear off the finish in use....See MoreChairs for antiqu oak table
Comments (12)I suppose if I find 6 oak chairs, then two Upholstered chairs at the ends. I presently have an all wood set with only a bar cart in my L shaped living-dining room and must say it is safe but dull. Please ignore the real estate pics, and the table surroundings. I do manage to put together decent decor and am asked to help others. With myself though, I definitely do agonize until a designer simplifies my dilemmas. If necessary, can lose the table altogether, just love the solid wood, size, and the way the leaves work and store. Will post again once it is in the new space....See Morenickel_kg
