My Houzz: Cozy Combination of Antiques and Art
Colorful Cuban artwork and a refined antique collection define a South Florida home
Homeowner Theresa Lage had a common downsizing dilemma: How do you keep all the beautiful things you have collected over the years in a significantly smaller space? Lage downsized from a 6,000-square-foot home to a 2,300-square-foot home, then moved to this charming 1,700-square-foot home in Coral Gables, Fla. Coral Gables is in South Florida, and referred to as "The City Beautiful," known for its oak-lined streets, barrel-tiled roofs ("coral gables") and historic Mediterranean Revival architecture.
As an empty nester, Lage wanted a single-level home with little maintenance. Before moving in, the kitchen, bathrooms and windows were remodeled to her specifications. Lage loves decorating with one-of-a-kind pieces and enjoys perusing antique shows and shops to bring together her passion for antiques and art.

The dining room mixes an exquisite crystal chandelier with an antique hand-carved buffet Lage got during her travels to Argentina. The antique chairs are mixed with a large all-glass dining table. The buffet table is graced with a modern painting and a vignette that incorporates a bronze statue and a modern glass vase collection.
The master bedroom has a simple upholstered headboard, an antique lighting fixture and a lovely antique settee. The art brings color to the otherwise neutral bedroom.

This area of the home mixes a beautiful gold-leaf mirror and a marble-topped console table. The porcelain urn on the table is an antique Sevres piece. A stunning crimson sculpture from Colombian artist William Barbosa sits above an antique marble and bronze column. Beside the column is an oil painting by artist Gina Pellon. Angels and ornaments make the area festive and seasonal.

The oak bookcase in the home office provides additional storage space and is flanked by watercolors by artist Roberto Estopiñán.
A hand-carved antique armoire provides storage for liquor and stemware in the dining room and doubles as a bar when open. Lage decorated the dining table with a beautiful crystal centerpiece filled with shells and coral.
