Baby-proof latches for frameless or inset cabinets
Comments (23)Even if I was willing to have knives on the counter and count on the baby not climbing up their, a knife block or magnetic strip wouldn't be very feasible for us. We keep kosher so we have separate knives for meat, dairy and parve (neither meat nor dairy). On top of that my favorite knife is a chinese chef's knife (shaped like a cleaver but lighter). I don't have enough available backsplash to put all those on a magnetic strip. mkitchen, I did find a listing for a baby proofer around here. I'm a little concerned that if we get one out, he will want to over-do it. Did you find the suggestions reasonable? And how much did it cost? lightlystarched, what kind of latches did your parents put in that got misshapen and useless after a month? We used latches on a few doors and drawers when our kids were little and they lasted for years. We have put latches on the low doors and drawers in the entertainment center because that is where we have her play area set up and we didn't want to be saying "No" all the time there. My DH and DDIL prefer that we say "only look" or "only touch" if it is something that she can touch but shouldn't put in her mouth to tell her what she can do instead of "no". I prefer to leave "no" or "only look" for the things that she might damage like the vertical blinds and secure the things that could quickly damage her badly....See MoreHow to cut Ikea drawer to fit the sink
Comments (12)f you don't want to cut the back of the drawer you could switch out the 24" deep drawer with the shallow 15" deep one. You could also replace your existing drawer with split drawers. If your cab is 30" wide use a 15" wide 15" deep drawers on one side, and a 15" wide 24" deep drawer on one the other. All you need for this is a fixed 2x4 at the bottom of the cab to attach the drawer rails to. dchall_san_antonio - we installed 2 Ikea Godmorgon vanities, one of which has double sinks. We were able to use the Ikea provided p-trap with no issues. The plumbing worked perfectly fine for us (also in the US). Whenever you replace a vanity/sink you will have to reconfigure the plumbing. Sink depths and location of the sink drain varies and so on. That's the nature of the beast of plumbing, it's not unique to Ikea or to the US....See Morehow to arrange the fridge panels & the above cabinet?? Ikea vs Scherrs
Comments (41)bbtrix, You're right about what I left out. I should have included the opposite wall in my posted layout but idk how to indicate a stud-bay pantry and pull-down table in floorplanner. I guess I could just put in a couple of lines with a note. We were still planning to do something like that, although maybe a narrow table with a stool underneath instead of a pull-down table (even though it would technically be in the way of traffic, we can deal with something that protrudes 12" or so). We probably can't do an under-cab MW just yet, as my youngest would probably spill stuff/burn himself, but in a couple years we could do that. I do want a few hooks and a place to put a couple pairs of shoes, but our front is our "main" entrance, or at least it's where we store more stuff. When we come in the back door, we are supposed to bring our shoes to the front, although we don't always do that (me too, not just the kids). We also have a closet and storage baskets in the front, so everything is *supposed* to be carried there. What hangs in the back is my apron and a few fleeces/windbreakers (and snow pants to drip/dry when we have snow but that's been sparse lately). So we need a little space for that, but not a ton. Sometimes I hang my purse in there out of reach of the cat, who finds the leather straps just right for chewing. That said, I am intrigued by the idea of the wall table on that *back wall* under the window in the next plan. If we did that, we could then use the space next to the stud-bay pantry for coats & shoes. And I didn't even know that Ikea made a fold-down table. I like the sound of a $40 table a lot better than a custom one. I wonder if I could put some fun contact paper on it so the whites wouldn't clash. That second layout is close to what I thought was The One, but several people here talked me out of having the fridge along that opposite wall next to the DR door. Even one of the people who originally suggested it changed her mind. Strong words were used. lol. I think I have officially abandoned that one. But this definitely gives me more to think about. Thank you so much!...See MoreIkea cabinets "how it works" confusion
Comments (6)Lexi - Not all door styles are available in all sizes. Accent fronts such as the Grevsta stainless steel fronts are only offered in limited sizes. I wouldn't try to call a store's kitchen department, unless you are willing to spend a lot of time waiting to be connected. You need the Sektion Buying guide and concentrate on page 38/39 for available cab sizes, and then find all available fronts/sizes listed starting on page 40. Be aware, that this guide dates to last August, the newest door styles are not included in it. Here is the online link for their Pdf version: https://www.ikea.com/ms/en_US/img/buying_guides/fy18/SEKTION_cabinets_August.pdf Don't mind Sophie, while she's a very knowledgeable ex KD, alas, she's also utterly tone deaf. Good luck with your kitchen. PS: Oops, I posted this before seeing damiarain's comment above....See MoreJason
