How much room do you need to make it fit without cutting? I had a cabinet installed and the p-trap was in the way. The installer (a friend) went the extra mile and changed the p-trap to a 1 1/4" . It was enough so the drawer didn't need cutting.

Hi Hmorton, thanks for the answer.. Unfortunately, since my sink is too deep, I need to change the garbage disposal and the Ptrap so the drawer can fit. Sorry I forgot to mention the garbage disposal.

There are quite a lot of metal that needs to be cut out.

Is it too late to return it to Ikea? I just installed a bathroom Ikea vanity and had to replumb everything under there. I don't see how Ikea can stay in the cabinetry business when they sell stuff that doesn't work in the US.

Nobody educated me when I purchased my kitchen and my bathroom vanity (btw I read about it already before my installation, so I have to have my bf prepare the plumbing before the installation)

Unfortunately my kitchen is already installed and I purchased them a while ago. I love how they designed everything including the pull out drawer, I don't want to return it either.

I guess the reason they can survive although the stuff doesn't work in the US is that the good alternatives are usually a lot more expensive. I want to know how much Sektion kitchen they sell a year, since it takes up a lot of space in their show rooms, I guess they sell a lot. And people just have to deal with it. :(

Maybe eliminate the drawers and purchase full-height doors that you can attach to either the bottom drawer only or a pullout platform?

I cut down Ikea Rationell drawers to fit in my pantry; I used a reciprocating saw with a blade for cutting metal to do it. It was fairly easy and quick. I also smoothed the cut edges so they wouldn't be sharp with a file . I have also seen people just replace the metal back with the desired size in wood but I wanted to maintain the way the back attached to the sides.

I haven't seen a Sektion drawer in person but from pics it looks like they are pretty much the same; cutting a scoop or rectangle to clear the pipes should be doable. Even if you have to cut pretty close to the bottom of the drawer it should remain stable/strong enough.

If you have a metal fabricating shop nearby (google "metal fabrication your town your state" to find one) they can do this (if they will). Also an auto body shop likely could.

f you don't want to cut the back of the drawer you could switch out the 24" deep drawer with the shallow 15" deep one. You could also replace your existing drawer with split drawers. If your cab is 30" wide use a 15" wide 15" deep drawers on one side, and a 15" wide 24" deep drawer on one the other. All you need for this is a fixed 2x4 at the bottom of the cab to attach the drawer rails to.

dchall_san_antonio - we installed 2 Ikea Godmorgon vanities, one of which has double sinks. We were able to use the Ikea provided p-trap with no issues. The plumbing worked perfectly fine for us (also in the US). Whenever you replace a vanity/sink you will have to reconfigure the plumbing. Sink depths and location of the sink drain varies and so on. That's the nature of the beast of plumbing, it's not unique to Ikea or to the US.

I am having the same problem.

I bought a high-end 1 horse-power garbage disposal with built-in LED lighting (to impress my neighbors) and now find my under sink drawer won’t fit.

My plan is to continue to use the 15 and 10 inch front panels, but to replace the interior section with a 5 inch drawer — which has a 2 ¾ inch back panel.

I love the way ikea does the sink cabinet plumbing! It works great. Lets you use drawers instead of doors, which don’t work for storage. I have an arrangement of 2 sink cabinets with custom vanity top and wall mounted sinks. We also used ikea mirror cabinets and lights. We have an amazing amount of storage!

What I did... I reinforced the metal back with a 3/4" hardwood on the back side. Then I cut out a profile of the needed space for the P trap and disposal. As I recall I used a metal cutoff wheel on a Dremel to make the metal cut. BTW this was the second time I replumbed... Ikea sells shallow sinks that avoid this issue that I started with but hated the water spots. So I ended up with a deeper than standard sink and this work around.
