Hidden home decor Monday style
Comments (19)There is something going on with that frame on the wall above the couch. There is a handle at top center of the frame, and 4 hinges along the bottom edge of the frame. Maybe this thing opens to reveal something else. It could be a serving shelf, but I think it swings all the way down to reveal a projector, or entertainment center, or opens to a room on the other side of the wall, maybe the kitchen. The frame is deeply set into the wall, about the depth of a 2 x 4. This is no ordinary picture frame....See MoreTuesday hidden home decor.
Comments (8)I think the uncentered middle hinge was so that it would be lower than the bottom shelf, so that I could use longer screws with out the fear that they'd poke through the side of the shelf and be visible. I realized that these are older pictures, and that since then I cut a hole in the lower part of the back panel and installed a door there so I have hidden storage inside my hidden storage....See MoreMonday's hidden home decor
Comments (26)I showed this to the missus and she has a theory. It is a 'safe room'. You cannot see the short wall that goes back to the windows, but it would be there. Camera and motion detector? They are there so that when in the safe room you can see everything that is going on outside that room. If you look closely, there is a light reflection on the floor when the door is open. Look closer and you can see the light (probably florescent) within the room. That door shows that it is not that thick, but it would provide a bit so safe refuge should it be necessary. It sorta makes sense to me....See MoreWednesday hidden home decor
Comments (17)I also found a picture of the bedroom beyond the bookcase door The house had some great features, most notably being right across the street from the harbor, with this for a view: The house itself was cute: and it had a large backyard, with terraced gardens However the kitchen was outdated and more importantly (in my opinion) it sloped down a couple of inches from the near side of the kitchen to the far side. Which I felt indicated foundation problems (well that, and the fact that you could see light through portions of the "rubble" foundation). My wife's family was fortunate that they found a buyer motivated enough by the location to ignore those potential issues....See More- 9 years ago
