Help -- white grout turning yellow
Comments (41)Tub and tiles reglazed and SEALED and within 5 months, the grout on 1/4 of the walls, turns yellow every day. I have 9 levels fused in my spine, so I physically cannot toothbrush this problem anymore. I had it professionally reglazed so I would not have to use a toothbrush anymore. I think its the towns awful water. It ruined our toilet to the point we had to replace it. It looked like I NEVER cleaned it ever. The plumber said he has "special talets" to get rid of it, but you have to leave the house for a full day, due to fumes. Funny we get a water bill when we have to lug jugs to the spring, for drinking water in Manchester, CT. The "reglazer" is coming back to re-seal but I do not see how that will be helpful. Grout has fallen off and he plans to just re-seal over it, without regrouting. Guaranteed for 15 years and this is his "fix"? Would a dark grey grout hide the yellow?...See MorePlease help on white paint for kitchen cabinets with grey counter
Comments (8)I've been working on just the right white for months, and have many, many painted samples! What I have found is that the color looks different in EVERY room, so what works for some here, may not work for you! My kitchen is really sunny and bright, I found BM Simply white stark. I really like BM white dove & SW Alabaster, and find them very close to the same color, with a same hint of a gray undertone. I am afraid though... that it may still read stark white in my kitchen. I have SW Pearly white on my walls now... from the chip, it is much darker than I would have picked, but I picked this because SW color matched it from a cabinet sample I liked. I have a whole wall painted, and sometimes it looks perfect, just a soft off white, other times it looks a bit dingy. I'm leaning a bit more to SW Creamy (it matched another cabinet). White and yellow.. two very hard colors to chose, but I think you need to get samples and see large size samples in your space. The colors change dramatically from one room to another!...See MoreDo white kitchens turn grey?
Comments (5)Grey ??? Do you mean the paint on the cabs ? No mine has not turned...grey or yellow :) I have oil based white painted cabs , used BM paint. I wipe them down with a soapy dishcloth whenever...mine are 6 yrs old now. I have posted a lot of "used kitchen " pics LOL. Do you want a closeup of the cab fronts ? I will do it when the day has started. I will be doing a lot of baking so will get a pic for you. Glad to show whatever will help you make a decision....See MoreDiscoloured white towels finally back to WHITE
Comments (18)"davidrt, you're kidding about the chlorine bleach, right?" Kidding about what? That people use it to whiten whites? But that it isn't marketed to consumers in Europe due to environmental regulations? These are observations as clear and plain to me as saying wheels roll. Some of the stuff in this straightdope thread is wrong, but no clorox in Europe is really old news: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=184314 I grew up with a lot of family friends who were European so maybe I just took for granted that most people knew this. As for whether people use it in the US...sheesh, have you ever gone to the laundry section of any grocery store? Not only is there about 80 shelf-feet of bleach, you can buy it in 5 different "flavors". (as someone who minored in chemistry, I've actually been impressed that they figured out how to add fragrance molecules that are resistant to getting oxidized by the bleach)...See Moredoreycrouse
