Need help with Cacti and Succulent ID's please :)
Comments (4)Yes, #2 and #3 are Mammillarias, I'm not positive which. #4 is Echinocactus grusonii, very much a baby still. #5, Pachypodium? Someone will know this for sure. #6 is a Stenocactus, very hard to tell the different species apart. #7 is Frithia pulchra. #8 is Mammillaria carmenae....See MorePlease, I need ID and some info on this succulent
Comments (5)Hi, Al, thanks for your answer, but this is not a Haworthia. I have another of those, but this one has its leaves smooth not like the one in the picture. Do you have any clue about the death of the mother? Thanks! Rocio...See MoreHelp me ID this succulent please? Also need some help with it
Comments (1)I think it needs a good soaking. It is trying to conserve moisture and is dropping old leaves. If you are unsure, stick a long toothpick or wooden kebab skewer deep into the soil and leave it overnight. Pull it out tomorrow, and if it doesn't feel dampish, you should water. It is possible your soil is compacted into a hard mass which water cannot soak into. When you water, watch if the water comes out the drainage holes immediately or if it actually soaks into the soil. If it pours out immediately, immerse the whole pot in a deep tray of water and let it soak for a few hours. Then use the wooden skewer to determine when it needs to be watered again. The purple colour is likely from the high light levels. happy growing! Breton...See MoreHelp with ID-ing cactus and succulent + advice
Comments (8)Thanks, Liz and socks! Yes, I repotted the cactus and yesterday was the first time it got some water, so the soil shrunk - I will definitely top up. When I was searching online I came across the Christmas tree cactus, it was a good candidate - now that Liz is mentioning it, I think it might be indeed a Austrocylindropuntia subulata monstrose. I got it from IKEA and I am not ashamed to admit it :) Seems like the plants from there last longer. I don't want to flood the forum, so I will ask the next question here - I bought an E. Perle von Nurnberg and it literally wilted OVERNIGHT. I am not kidding. I bought it, it seemed fine, brought it home, did not water it, the next morning the lower leaves were the wrinkly yellow-ish and limp sign of overwatering. I have discarded the leaves, repotted with a hefty amount of perlite in a slightly larger pot and am thinking about beheading. Never tried it yet though. Right now it is a bit wobbly, because the soil is dry and aerated, and the poor thing is like a danglyhead without its lower leaves. Would it be fine if I behead it now, or should I wait for it to get over the shock of changing homes first?...See Morerina_Ontario,Canada 5a
