Spinal Stenosis Update
Comments (13)Oh My....Statins are, to me, frightening. I tried to take Lipitor for months. I see my MD at least every 4 months and would take Lipitor for only days before I ached all over and stopped....then 3 months later would try again.....never could tolerate them. Finally when labs and statin came together in blood work, I had muscle tissue in my blood. Never heard of such a thing. DH has been taking some statin for years and has Rheumatoid Arthritis and he is so uncomfortable all the time....finally stopped statin and is feeling much better. We thought his aches and pain was from RA....don't think so anymore. He sees a new MD tomorrow, I think....me on Wednesday....See MoreWhy PT for Spinal Stenosis?
Comments (25)One more comment, if I may. In your OP you said: "I've looked at this type of exercise online and do not see how they can possibly do more than briefly relieve the pain of stenosis crushing nerves in my lumbar and sacral regions." A good physiotherapist will design an individual exercise program specifically for you and your needs and for your level of ability/disability. Think of it as an architect-designed program rather than one put out by a tract builder 😉 He/she will give you a regular program to do at home every day. She might recommend some inexpensive aids (I have a "spiky ball" that works wonders on ultra tight hip and back muscles). Something as simple as sleeping on my back with a pillow under my knees to change my back posture at night helped me quite a bit. Remember, the whole objective is to make your muscles carry more of the load, and over time, that will indeed help with pain levels. It's not like a drug, so don't expect instant relief, but it will help, and if worst comes to worst, it will make you better prepared for surgery....See MoreGood Wishes Needed

Comments (11)Thanks for the commiseration, KT friends. It does help! I'm to see my primary tomorrow afternoon. The Cyclobenzaprine 5MG (muscle relaxant) she prescribed has not helped, but upping the tylenol-4 to one every five hours does help. (Prescription is every four hours, but I'd been limiting myself to every six hours for the stenosis pain over the past three years.) PT prescribed mostly leg stretches. I have one to reach the floor between spread knees (while seated), then sit up and extend arms, pushing shoulders together in the back. I'd expect more 'upper body', not that I can move at all now without stabbing pain! I'm going to check out your link, Annie. Anything that adds a sense of control helps....See MoreUser
