Master Bathroom Updated - X-Post from Decorating
Comments (25)bullielove and motherof3inct - Yes, the Linen Cabinet was also built custom and to match the vanity - drawers same height and same wood/finish. The original Linen Closet had an 18" bi-fold door, which really only opened about 15", with wire shelving inside. The door was standard 80" height. We opened the width to 24" and the height to 96" for this cabinet. It is free-standing, though anchored, and the frame is scribed to fit as if built-in. Comments (5)G'day, Aussiepete- I'm also a Pete who was/is an Aussie -well I was born in Canada but lived in Australia and NZ most of my adult life. I have a copy of the BC electrical code, simplified - if you went to your local Home Hardware, you may be able to get a version for your own province, or from a student bookshop where they teach electrical trades. I will go out on a limb and say this should be the same for your province, since I believe they're working on a national code for Canada (except, maybe Quebec? - a little separatist humour there) Rules 6-206 2-308(1) and 26-402 state that "nor should it (the service panel) be in bathrooms, clothes closets, stairwells, kitchen cabinets or similar places. So I guess you'll have to think of something else - I wonder, though, if constructing a utility closet WITHIN a bathroom would be acceptible, but keep in mind, you want room to work in there. Maybe you should go to wherever it is you go to book an inspection and ask their advice. I'm sure they would be happy to make suggestions, after all at least initially (but be ready to submit and be inspected when you build it) you won't be doing any wiring work, you just (quite rightly) don't want to violate the code (potentially having to remove or rectify the work later)...See MoreI'm trying to choose a bathroom vanity (X-post from Home Dec.)
Comments (3)We will be using a different counter top. This is one that we both like. It's white ceramic with an integral bowl. It's available in two thicknesses - 3/4" and 1 1/4". Both of the vanities are from Fairmont Designs. We've seen them at several plumbing supply showrooms. I have also found several sources on line, including Amazon! As much as like #1, it does read contemporary to me, too....See MoreJanky plumbing job- help!! (x-posted from bathrooms)
Comments (12)Asking for wall mounted shower fixtures was a mistake. Free standing tubs are not meant to have showers unless it is a hand held shower wand. That configuration is common in Europe. To convert this tub to a fixed overhead shower it is necessary to install an exceedingly clumsy 4 sided shower curtain rod that is hug from the ceiling with a supply pipe or hose from a tub mounted faucet set with a diverter valve. I own one of these horrible things and I wish I had the space to make it a proper tub or a shower stall. It is claustrophobic and provides no way to catch your balance since you are wrapped in plastic coated nylon that tends to cling to you with the shower on and it is necessary to bend very low to adjust the two faucet handles. I can't imagine why anyone would intentionally build one of these things. The OP's configuration would need a drain in a waterproof floor. Floor-mounted tub fill and shower wand:...See Moreakl_vdb
