Are you quilting this weekend? Sept. 13-15
Comments (24)Everyone was busy this weekend! Thanks Marsha and Rosa... practicing is fun and frustrating! Calliope, the puff quilt is pretty slow going because I also started an Irish chain and I keep switching back and forth. I can't just do one thing at a time, but I have a full gallon Ziploc bag full of puffs ready to be stuffed. By the way, last September (a year ago), I started a Rail Fence quilt that I shared here... I'm still working on the binding, but I wanted to tell you that I also quilted the extra backing material that had folded over more times than I can even remember! It was so frustrating, so I know exactly how you feel! I went to my grandmothers house Saturday (the family grilled some food for me since I turn 30 tomorrow.... aaaaahhh) and came away with 6 boxes of fabric! Some of it made me wonder what in the world she was thinking when she purchased it, but a lot of it is really nice! I left a lot of "ugly" stuff behind that they are just going to donate. I also got a really cool lamp called a tangle lamp that can be twisted and turned into different configurations and a small adjustable craft table. I was going to take her Singer 401A, but I need a fourth sewing machine like I need another hole in my head! Also, I didn't have room in the car and couldn't find the foot pedal; if it turns up I may take the machine and donate it to someone who can use it (after playing with it a while first of course)! Comments (21)Donna I'm glad they moved your mother closer.... that will be much easier on you! Calliope, I was curious about what machine you had too.... though not wanting to dis a brand publicly is a rare quality indeed! I specifically did not sew today. I needed a break so I didn't get burned out after the last project that consumed me.... and I had to catch up on errands and house work. I cleaned up a weeks work of paper peicing scraps (had to empty the vacuum 6 times and that was after sweeping the big chunks with a broom!), ordered 20 bobbins (my machine doesn't take class 15 or 66 and I'm always out of empty bobbins and the filled ones are never the right color), and watched 3 videos about sewing/embroidery machines! So I did sewing related stuff even though I didn't quilt :o) I went to Lowes and bought one of those small fake electric stove heater things.... felt like the right thing to do as cold as it's been lately and I can't have the real thing in an apartment. The flame looks pretty real and it will be nice to put near the machine when I'm working on a project.... The heater part isn't as good as my tower heater and it doesn't have a remote, but it's not bad for under 100 dollars. I also made a pot of chili (I haven't cooked in forever) and accidentally dumped the cranberry sauce in thinking it was tomato sauce.... remind me not to cook at 4 AM anymore please. :o) Kate, you haven't chimed in yet, but did you get your Juki yet? Is the Elna back home safe and sound? I imagine (hope) you'll start a thread about the Juki when you begin to use it... Have a great weekend everyone......See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? Comments (12)We just got back from 2 weeks in Morocco and Spain and am trying to catch up. We did go into a couple fabrics shops in Madrid - lots of flamenco type fabrics - synthetics, etc. Not any cotton I could find. It was interesting to see, but nothing I wanted to buy. My 89 year old mother weeded our entire raspberry patch while we were gone - bless her heart! Today we sorted through some boxes of fabric I inherited from a friend and she picked out a stack of fabrics that might work for some quilt backings for her - some pieces are 5-6 yards each! Others are just plain ugly! Tomorrow we are having professional family portraits taken with 4 generations - both of the great grandmas, DH & I and our DS & DIL and our beautiful granddaughter, Charlotte. (Charlotte is a great name, Linda! :) ) The kids will come over for bbq after the portraits are done. We figured having both of our moms here (89 and 91 years old) we had better do it before they aren't here for good. Snapshots are okay, but this will be better. Our moms go back to Arizona Wednesday, then I can get back to sewing. Sue...See MoreAre you quilting this weekend? Feb. 9-11
Comments (11)I'm working on my Cowboy quilt for the DH. It's made from a panel that's cut up, sashed and re-sashed. I had a photo, but no pattern. Someone offered to make me a pattern on EQ, so I tried to use it, but none of the measurements are correct. So far, I've had to remake every section at least once and sometimes three times. I finally got the middle section to fit correctly, but it didn't fit the side sections, so I have to re-do the sashing on the center section again for the umpteenth time. My piecing has improved, though. There are many lessons to be learned here. Mr. Seamripper has been very busy at my house. I hope that once I get the center and sides together, the other sections will be easier. I'll dust off my grade-school fractions and give them a workout before I start on the final two sections. bkay...See Morecarolnv
