What do I need for a wood ceiling...plank, tongue and groove

I have a family room that is vaulted and want to put wood there. What kind of wood do I use? I don't want beadboard.

    We used tongue and groove cedar in a bathroom. It's been up since

    1985' no stain nor finish on the wood...We just wash it with a damp cloth on occasion, like once a year. :)

    I saw an HGTV show today where the beach house homeowner had made a wood ceiling out of ripped 6"-8" wide lengths off of thin plywood sheets. It was to mimic shiplap. Easy to hang. Looked great after painting!
