Finished budget guest bath
Comments (15)Sorry for the delay in responding, we were gone all day and got home too late. Maybe you've already put up the fixture, since you posted at noon (EST at any rate) and your reno is all done! If that's the case, then more pics in your "5 day reno" thread, pretty please! I like that the light faces down in our bath. For a variety of reasons we decided to keep the fixture (and electrical box) above the mirror. There are two recessed lights over the shower and no window at all. To be able to see yourself with any (too much?) detail in the mirror, the light had to be pointed down. Better to have unflattering light than not enough light. You do have a window over your tub (and a separate shower so no curtain blocking the window light). Your old mirror did have side sconces, which I've read is far preferred to top lighting, but now you're putting in only one light above the mirror?? Two nice new side sconces would be better but if you can't do those for some reason (since you obviously already bought one for the top), then up or down is the question. I'm sure one who understands limitations in options :/ . If one or two of your recessed lights is over the vanity (light shining between the person and the mirror), I would think you could install pointing up. But, from your pics, it looks like one light over the tub, one over the toilet, and one over the shower (lucky you with that separate shower!), and the vanity corner looks dark in the pic but maybe it's ok IRL. If you stand there with the recessed lights on and can't see well enough for someone to be able to put on makeup or shave, then it probably needs to be pointed down. I was careful to buy a light that said it could be mounted up or down and that was ok for damp locations. Hopefully your light has the same qualities! Good luck and HTH...See MoreJust updated my powder room - pics
Comments (6)Thanks for the compliments! flyleft, The base paint is (Home Depot brand) Behr Interior Satin Enamel; color is "Fall Mood" (PWL-87). It's painted on with a roller (cut in at ceiling and corners with a brush). The next day I put on the glaze coat. I had them mix the top paint to a color that was the same as the base, but 25% lighter. The paint lady recommended 50% or 75% lighter, but I wanted a really subtle effect for the powder room. Anyway, the top paint is mixed 1 part paint, with 4 parts glaze. The glaze is Behr Faux Glaze (No, 748, whatever that means). So I mixed 1 pint of top paint with 1/2 gallon of Glaze (and still had lots left over), then applied the mixture with a rag. You just get the rag wet, wring it a little and then begin pressing it, all bunched up, onto the wall. You can do harder or softer for different effects, and you can do more sparsely or more completely for different effects. I did fairly hard (since it was so light) and pretty completely. Here's an upclose picture of it:...See Morereplace with matching water faucet/soap dispenser now?
Comments (7)Taggie: hahahaa. Yes, I think he would notice, because he would be the one installing them. âÂÂswitch the top part in for the stainless one and not mention a word about it. Don't know how observant your DH is, but mine would never notice itâ But you know, the water filter faucet is starting to leak a little (wink wink wink)â¦especially when I bang it w/ my big metal pan!!! Hahahaa Breezygirl: oh, IâÂÂm way past year 2012 birthday and anniversary already. My 4 girlfriends and I are heading to South Beach for our birthday celebration next month. For our anniversary, I got my beloved Vitamix Blender (oh how romantic). Christmas 2013 present = IâÂÂm getting the Blum Servo for the hands-free trash pullout. As for the handles: funny you mentioned it. Our friend came to help install them this morning. He didnâÂÂt have enough time to do them all, but he strategically did not do any of the uppers so that he didnâÂÂt have to fight me on installing them horizontally. I didn't mention that I hate wasting stuff. Yes, I can Freecycle them, but...still wasteful. thanks, Amanda...See MoreYay!! Ordered my faucet & sink- but which soap dispenser??
Comments (5)Congrats Staceyneil!! I was so happy when I finally ordered my sink and faucets too! One less thing to worry about! Did you ask the folks at Home & Stone what they recommended to go with the faucet? Do you have a local plumbing store where you can go look at their displays to see what they paired your faucet with for a soap dispenser? What did they pair it with on the Hansgrohe site? Sometimes on plumbing websites when you click on a particular faucet they will pop up smaller pictures recommending items to go with the one you are viewing. Good luck! Kat :)...See Moremayflowers
