basement bathroom waste and vent question
Comments (0)Hello, I'm putting a bathroom in my basement and wanted to see if I was on the right track for my waste and vent plan. The bathroom will have a toilet and shower on one wall and the lav sink on the opposite wall. There is an existing drain line that runs from the sink and dishwasher above that goes to the sewer and is vented to the main stack of the house. My plan is to tie into those. At this point, I am hoping someone can let me know if I'm on track with the general design. Here's what I sketched out...I'd appreciate any help you can offer. The part I shaded in blue are the existing lines....See MoreGreen Bathroom Follow Up Questions...(Color Experts)
Comments (17)Alright kids, I took some pictures of this space. The more I think about it, I think doing a wow color is going to be too much for me. I think if I didn't have to do above the tub, it might work...take a look at the photos. I'm looking through old paint swatches, and I'm wondering would Weimeramer be too dark with the dark floor, maybe Natural Cream would work, a little bit of contrast with the tub and the woodwork.... Look at the photos, not the best, but hey, what do you expect with a camera phone? View from doorway, looking in mirror you can see the tub side of shower opposite shower head from that spot looking towards the door from where the toilet will be, between vanity and window and this is The Tree From the top, (these are taped onto the tub wall, so you can see the contrast) They are: Natural Cream Weimaramer Wales Green Hibiscus My tile will be this one on the left it is 6x24 Top chip is Natural Cream, showing it against Cloud White Showing the Fab 4 with the floor tile in the photo ------ So, I looked at the Preview, the photos are not that great at all. Not sure if the colors are represented all that well. The Weimeramer isn't that dark, it will look ok with the dark cabinets and the floor, not sure though if the whole room would have a "dark vibe" though. I will look at the greens suggested earlier in this thread tomorrow. I gotta get ready to go to dinner. Takin' me Aussie student out for her last night here!...See MoreBamboo shades in bathroom
Comments (7)I wanted more privacy in my bathroom, but didn't want to put up curtains I'd have to wash and iron, or worry about mold. After lots of thought and research, my solution was to use Gallery Glass to make a faux stained glass window. It was a fun creative project. Mine is Victorian, but there are many patterns out there for asian-inspired stained glass that are just breath-taking. Here's mine. I left blank in the middle because I have a lovely view out that window, but if you like you can make your entire window non-see-through. The "frame" around the window gives me privacy up to the shoulders, which was my original goal. The window lets in tons of light, and it's easy to clean with no worry about mold. . Here are some ideas for you that might look pretty in an Asian-themed bath: There are undoubtedly more Asian ones out there. I'm not into Asian decor, so these are the most Asian ones in my files, sorry. But if you google "asian stained glass" or "chinese stained glass" or "japanese stained glass" and select "images" you will no doubt find lots of gorgeous windows. Some sites even give you patterns for free, in black and white line drawings. So you can choose the window you want. Get a clear flat print of it on your computer. Call Staples. Email them your file. Or, you can take them a printed out copy. Tell them you want a black and white print and give them the dimensions of your window(s) glass. Then transfer your print to your windows with carbon/transfer paper. Supplies are at Michaels. Put on your leading lines (peel and stick and cut so you need a good exacto knife is all). Make your "solder dots" with liquid leading. Then paint your colors and get all the bubbles out with a toothpick. I find if you put dots of different colors within an area and blend them with back and forth strokes with a toothpick, you can replicate stained glass quite well. An example is the golden/white and the turquoise/white "glass in this window: I did that one on plexiglas because it's huge, and I would have had to do it standing on a ladder. Here it is in progress. I glued "jewels" on it too, which are clearly visible in this pic: Let your window dry and enjoy it for years!...See MoreTo Motorize Shades or Not To Motorize Shades, That’s My Question
Comments (24)My wired solar shades (south facing windows) are Lutron and are awesome and whisper quiet. These are hard wired as it was a new build. For my vacation house I installed rechargeable battery motorized shades and like them also. Not as beautiful and quiet as the Lutron but I like that I can control the unreachable upper windows in my vaulted room. Another advantage is if you have a large quantitiy of windows (I have 9 in my master suite) the electric ones can be grouped together and opened/shut together rather than manually doing 9 seperate windows in the morning and evening. I still have manual shades in some rooms that only have one or two easily accessible windows. It really depends on your situation whether its worth the extra expense....See MoreRelated Professionals
