Want to share your front yard garden pics?
Comments (12)Well, I took Inkognito's advice and took a walk around the block but it seems that many house have limited landscaping and have either overgrown large shrubs like what we had going, or they have ripped out everything and just have perennials, no shrubs. Luckygal, great idea in hiring kids to do the work. I work at a school and I could hire some of the students to work in my yard. You did find the whipcord pics. What we decided to do is plant a barberry just behind it in a yellow colour to make the whipcords stand out. I am going to fill in with hostas and heuchera to allow for years of change and growth that isn't too permanent. Mjsee, what a gorgeous yard. Sheesh! I wish I had the trees and shade that you have! That is just amazing! I really like your stone features. What an amazing additive to the plants and trees you have. I am impressed. Japanese maples, hostas, heucheras and ferns, oh my! I would be very embarrassed to show any pictures right now. I am not a professional and what we have done in the front yard or have not yet done isn't something I want to show off. LOL We are actually replacing the lawn this year because the weeds have gotten way out of control. There is a garden that I am giving up on and replacing with lawn instead. That being said, perhaps later in the season I will be able to be proud enough of our changes that I will post. The before and after pics would show the work we have done this year. Years to come, it will get better and better. Thanks for sharing your pics and advice everyone. I hope my yard can look half as nice as yours!...See MoreWanted to share a few Pics of Lyman Estates. Comments (15)Oh my goodness everyone, I had no idea this thread would take off like this! Well, I kind of thought we all loved plants and would all love to group up at a place like this! So what do you say, let's all hook up and go on a spending spree here! lol Would you believe they only have on person there a day that volunteers to look after the plants!? Yes, I could not believe it. I might join the ranks. Elkay, they heat with oil heat I think. I'll have to check it out. i did find out they have a system that gives them fresh water to water with. Yes, Massachusetts it is! Now, if you are ever in the area, let me know and I will take you there. You can buy anything you want you just can't find anywhere. Did you all happen to notice what looks like a Rhododendron in the Yes, I could spend all day here, and in fact, go there at every chance I have just to be at peace and examine every plant there along with looking at how they are cared for and what they thrive in 18th picture down? I thought is quite unusual. Rosey...lol I have thought of sleeping there for a fee...Caring for those plants for free.lol Toni, Come on up! Bring a lot of cash with you. By the way, did I tell you that only here can you buy the most unusual pots too?;-) Josh, you noticed..lol Jodik, how did you know? lol By the way, I'll be going back there Saturday to buy one of those Chocolate smelling ones for sure. I mean, they smell like a rich deep Chocolate smell! Thank you for walking with me everyone. I just knew you would all enjoy this place as I do every time I go back. There is always something new and something to learn. It is never boring. It is like somewhere over the rainbow:-) Mike...See MoreWeek 19: Oh what a beautiful mooorrrningg!
Comments (60)OK, my secret project isn't completely finished but I am ready to reveal it at least. I built.....a temporary kitchen island. Our budget ran way over (big surprise there) and so weve had to put off getting the island and buffet cabinet built. Turns out to be a good thing because I've been putting painters tape on the floor in different configurations, lengths, widths, etc to try to figure out the dimensions of the island in order to have sufficient walkways. Since we always used our peninsula in the old kitchen for breakfast and lunch, I've been really annoyed at having to use the formal dining room for every single meal. I finally said "FORGET IT" (that's not exactly the term I used) and decided, why not build a temporary island. Then I'll have my casual dining and place for the kids to do homework and I'll be able to see if the dimensions will work. It is 8 feet long, 25 inches wide and built using a sheet of 7 ply birch and 2 4x4x6 pine. I ripped the plywood into the right width, then ripped 1 inch pieces to attach to the edges so the counter would appear thicker. Cut the 4x4s, screwed them in place. Used the router to soften all the edges so there wasn't any sharp corners for babies to get hurt on. I've spent the past few days sanding and painting it. I put on a chocolate color first, then painted a creamy white over all of it and I am now in the process of going back and distressing it. As I told my husband, its made of plywood and pine, its not going to look like a fine piece of furniture and if I attempt to make it that way it will look like lipstick on a pig. So I decided to go for the old, worn out look instead. Here's a shot of the whole thing And here is a closeup of the distressing I'm putting on it So...what do you guys think?...See MoreOH MY GOSH !! you're not going to believe what I just did
Comments (16)Okay...the rest of the story... When I stirred it up I was stirring up a double batch... I then poured it into two 9x13 pans... I must have gotten more of the pumpkin mix into one of the pans than the other one... Because the one I took to church (that looked delicious) could not be eaten with a plastic fork...NO WAY...you could not stick the fork in it...I was so embarrassed. Denny leaned over to me and said..." How much were the pans?" I'm thinking "HUH?" He said the cake pans..."Maybe we should just grab the lids and run"......LOL... My grandaughter said..." forget it grandma...it won't help...you've got your name written on the pan..they'll still know it was you that made it!!!"......very funny Kacie But the one at home was great...So I'm assuming there wasn't enough moisture in the other pan...I just picked the wrong pan to take to church. There was a lot left over in the other pan of the Apple stuff I made too...I guess the word passed around..."if it says Patti on the pan....don't eat it !!!" Oh well. "S" At least you couldn't taste the chili powder mistake. patti...See MoreLynnNM
