Wanted to share a few Pics of Lyman Estates. Oh beautiful!

I had NO idea this place was just 20 minutes from my home until my good friend told me about it. Oh, I was in plant and orchid heaven...Please enjoy since many of you will recognize many plants here:-0)

It's an old rustic castle home with beautiful walking trails and greenhouse added onto the walls of this building. A great place to escape to and learn so much from. It's warm in there and all the plants are in pots!
You can buy plants here not seen anywhere else.

A great place to escape to in the heart of winter.

Wow...beautiful! How is that greenhouse heated? I could stay in there all day! You're in Michigan? I was born in Detroit. Now live in NJ. My Aunt lives in Dearborn Hgts.

WOW here too, so many plants I would love to get my hands on LOL...I'm so jeaous, I wish I had a place like that here...most of the nurseries around here only sell trees, and if they have houseplants, 98% of them are basic plants you can find anywhere...and you just discovered this place?? maybe I need to do some more reearch to see if I have a place like that somewhere near, I'd even be willing to travel a ways for it.

How do you do that????You got your Aloe to flower and I too have been trying for years. I don't usually drop in over here, but for you, Mike... and the few other regulars here who have been so nice to me in the past, I made an exception. Josh, good to see you, too, of course. :-) I love all the photos... and Josh, that is a lovely flower! I'm glad I got a chance to see it! It's been so long since I've stopped in... that the Den keiki I was gifted with a few years ago finally began its first set of buds. Unfortunately, they shriveled and died before getting a chance to open, but at least I now know the plant is of age and size to bloom. I believe it's simply too dry in the environment I have to offer it, and my husband works with electronics, so a humidifier is not on the menu. It's ok... I'm just happy it's alive and flourishing, and next year I'm sure to get more buds... and I'll be ready with a helping hand of some type... I've got some time to figure it out, and Mike has actually given me some good suggestions. Take care, people... and happy growing!

Sorry it has taken me a while to get back and check in. I was out of town for work and just got home. Thanks so much everyone for the compliments. It makes me feel good, I must admit. I always seem to see what needs to be done, and sometimes forget to look at what it is! I will try to answer everyone's questions. Hope I don't miss any. In no particular order... The lilies in the "big" picture are almost all daylilies. The lilies in the close-up pictures I am not sure. Just some bulbs I picked up, probably at a big box store or the local garden center? Sorry I don't have their names. The rose pictured in the 4th picture is Morden Belle. There are actually 3 bushes planted in that bed. I hope that is the rose you meant? Yes, I do have the courtyard of roses and yes they are blooming. However, many of the roses on the fence were taken down this year due to RRD. I have planted bittersweet in their place. Won't be the beautiful flowers, but will provide privacy that won't get RRD. As you can see from the picture below, the fence is now pretty bare looking on the side. I have decided that I will try to keep the roses on the fence across the end and around the corner. The need for privacy there is not so great, as the Wine and Roses weigela in the island bed does screen most of the garden from that end. Again, thank you everyone! Luvs, I have a feeling this lady had money to burn, you should have seen the Oreintal things she had, probably bought most of it in the East personally. Yes and you did hear the excitement in my post, I was planning on going to a sale up north, but it was the only one on Wed. although I've been to this sale before & they have lovely things & great prices, but was too lazy to drive 20 miles to go to one sale. I was just not going to go to any sale that day & it was like it was meant to be that I found one right in my neighborhood that probably blew the other one away, so yes, it was exciting. Bad thing is, everything I bought is still sitting on my hot-tub as I have no place to put it. Been procrastinating about trying to find room on the shelves in the basement, where I know there is NO ROOM! I will have to rid myself of some things if I want to put these away soon!

Yowza, Mike! What a wonderful place to visit! I can just imagine that scent, only found in greenhouses... and what a huge collection, and a lot of work for someone and crew!

Fantastic pictures Mike, I could see myself spending a long day there. Where in Michigan is this place. I am not too far from Michigan, I tried to google it but only came up with a Lyman Estate and Greenhouse in Mass.

What beautiful pictures! Gorgeous plants. What is the pink flowering plant in the 7th pic? The leaves and flower shape remind me of foxglove. The Flame Violet beside it is nice too. Marg

Mike. Meet me at the airport tomorrow morning at 7am. You and I are going to Lyman's Castle, to browse and buy.
Not that I'm buying anymore plants. :)

I can comment on every pic, but there's too many. Would you happen to know what the pink bell-shape flower is?

Orchid flowers are so big and beautiful!

I want a tree fern. lol

The variegates are amazing..And the orange flower...WOW..is that an orchid?

Luv the citrus/lemon...fruit are big.

Lyman Castle conservatory would be a great place to visit. 20 minutes away! You should go there daily. lol

Toni, I didn't find it under Conservatory, either. I came up with Lincoln Park and Taylor Conservatory but no Lyman Estate/Conservatory. Stevi

I really like the old greenhouse with its heating pipes, window opening mechanism and those lovely old bricks. It is very reminiscent of old lean-to glasshouses here. I love going into them in the winter.

What beautiful plants. Mike, you don't need to buy any - just convince them that you want to live there and care-take all the plants. They could all be yours for free. :)

That lemon tree was something special.

I think I am a little confused here, for some reason I thought Mike lived in Michigan, but he lives in Massachusetts? That would be why the only Lyman Castle I find is outside of Boston and not in MI.
So I do not see myself visiting Lyman's any time too soon.
The photos were beautiful!

Mike, so, am I reading correctly that they actually sell plants out of this greenhouse? Did you wander across any of those mini bonsai plumies there? This would be a lot closer trek than going to Logees for me, after all - since shipping this time of year (especially on tropicals) might be a disaster ensured to happen.

You don't need a cot - you're already used to giving up your bedroom to house plants - imagine sleeping among all those lovely scented beauties. Surely, a cot really isn't a necessity, is it? :D
