A couple of reel mower questions (bermuda grass)

I have an American 7 blade manual reel mower for my Bermuda grass and I live in the Raleigh, NC area. It works well and I have no complaints. The only problem is around July, the bermuda grows so fast and thick it becomes impossible to mow the bermuda with the manual reel even if I'm mowing 2 - 3 times a week. I've raised the blade and that works for a bit until it just gets too thick. I've been using my rotary mower for about the last month or so. Any way around that? The reel mower gives my grass a much better cut.

My 2nd question is about a gas powered reel mower. I see them on Craigslist all the time and had thought about getting one. The main reason I haven't is because of how much they cost to get sharpened. However, I know you can back lap reel mowers as that is how I sharpen my manual mower. For a gas powered mower, is backlapping sufficient or will it need to be put on a relief grinder.
