Friday night: what was your main meal today?

I didn't eat my Meals on Wheels at lunchtime so had it for my supper. Johnny marzetti, salad, carrots, baked apple. I skipped the apple and had a bavarian cream fried pie from an Amish stand a few miles away. Still hot and muggy here in my part of Ohio.

Care to share what was on your plate for your main meal today? Also, what's your weather like?

Cleaning out my freezer and found stew meat, so made beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, fresh green beans, fresh peaches and ice cream.

Vodka? Maybe not. Teriyaki chicken and fried rice. Loads of peas, carrots, broccoli, and zucchini. It's was OK. From the hospital cafeteria.

Weather is downright dreamy since our heatwave broke.

We had grilled flap steak and grilled mixed veggie kabobs. Baked potato.

adellabedella_usa, I made a roasted tomato salsa with the last of my tomato harvest this year. It was so good that, I've been buying tomatoes ever since and making a weekly batch. I eat it with sliced avocados, scrambled eggs, warmed corn tortillas, and occasionally chips.

Friday night often means homemade pizza night with the sprites, unless Robert and I have other plans, and that's what we had tonight. We'll fix anything they want but pizza usually wins. Older sprite makes the dough by herself now! She ran over as soon as she got home, put her apron on and got to work. So cute. She assembles everything she needs and lines the ingredients up according to when they are needed. Little sprite picks peppers, tomatoes, and basil and helps decide what else we want on the pizza. Anyway, we had a couple of grilled pizzas, a simple crunchy salad, and lemon sugar cookies for dessert.

I was out on business calls all day and pooped by the time I got home late afternoon so I did breakfast for dinner as well.....mushroom and chicken liver omlette. One of my favorites. And sourdough toast. I have been in the mood for lasagna (who knows why!!) but really only like homemade so will be attempting to make a small sized dish of it today. Lasagna for one?? We'll see how well that goes :-) My sister is off pasta these days (slimming) and my freezer won't accommodate much of anything and after one leftover meal, I've had enough. Hard to cook stuff like that for a single person and not waste it.........

Today I spent the day at an amusement park. I don't eat park food so my friend and I stopped at a local family restaurant. I had a French Dip made on their special house bread instead of the usual roll. Their bread is similar to a Dutch Crunch. Once they ran out of rolls and made my sandwich on a hunk of that bread they cut into a roll. I have requested it that way since. I brought half home and it's reheating in the toaster oven as I type. For dessert I stopped and had a a strawberry ice cream cone, again at a local mom and pop place that carries Marianne's Ice Cream from Santa Cruz Ca.

I'm cooking dinner right now. I'm frying up some thick boneless pork chops and having twice baked cauliflower. Keto meal. Probably a small side salad to go with it.

Leftover chicken and rice. Weather is hot and humid. I can`t wait for fall and cooler temperatures.

I split half of a half-bushel of peaches with a friend. I`m loving those with ice cream, and on my cereal.

The stores have half-bushels of roma tomatoes now. Our freezer is full and it`s killing me not to buy them and make spaghetti sauces and soups.

I normally eat a big breakfast so I'm not really hungry for lunch and in this hot weather I'm not cooking suppers. Tonight I had a toasted cheese with a slice of tomato inside. Then I'll probably snack until bedtime.

debby_ab: How do you make twice baked cauliflower? Sounds like I might like it. I usually just steam mine.

Tuna salad. I made it, put in hardboiled eggs. I used to use the light tuna because supposedly it has less mercury, but I got tired of that fishy-fishy taste and used the white tune (albacore??)

Had some leftover cheesy scalloped potatoes from yesterday to finish off. Added Canadian bacon lightly browned and another of those only in summer treats, fried green tomatoes! Hit the spot. A glass of extra fiber V8 took the place of a salad.

Muggy here is west central PA too. A mid afternoon thunder shower cooled it down some, but the sun soon returned and it got muggier.

Hi gadgets - we haven't had dinner yet, it's 6 PM here. And very warm on the Washington coast, just beginning to drop and now lower 90's. We were gone Wed/Thurs and having my simplest dinner tonight - which means DH is cooking. I'll make a easy green salad, and he's roasting potatoes and grilling the steaks outside.

That's the very first time I've heard Johnny marzetti and I had to look it up. I've made goulash, and pastitsio, lasagna, but the Johnny casserole isn't something I've seen. With as many potlucks as I've been to in my lifetime, it must not be regional for here. Sounds good!

Lunch was tomatoes with Italian dressing and shredded cheese, with a big oatmeal walnut cooky later in the afternoon. After sweating like a horse while pulling weeds and stalking the bugs in my pumpkin patch, then mowing grass, I didn't feel like eating supper, so I had Kefir bread and butter, with a glass of tea. I might have to find a midnight snack. ;)

Weather has been hot and humid for weeks, rained off and on for the last few days, but no rain today.

I went to a monthly picnic potluck in the park. We had salads, tacos, chips and little smokies in sauce along with cupcakes and mini cinnamon rolls. It's true potluck and you might have only 4 people show up or twenty. It was a good turnout with a lot of variety. There have been times when it was only desserts.

DD met me there with the grand kids when it was toward the end so we could spend some time together. DGD entertained us with a song and dance she performed on top of an empty table. The world is her stage and she loves to rock out. LOL. She's 4. She wanted her 2 year old brother to take a turn but he was busy passing out Cheetos to everyone so we would be orange like him. ;-)

Spent the rest of the day with DD and kids. Before I came home I drove another 12 miles to a diner I like. They have an extra special turkey club. it comes with avocado and cheese in addition to the turkey, bacon. lettuce and tomato. It's huge and the turkey is fresh roasted and cut thick. That was dinner with fruit on the side (watermelon, strawberries, bananas and cantaloupe.

Gazpacho!! Tomatoes are coming on like gangbusters, cucumbers, peppers galore. PERFECT for a late summer on meatless Fridays!!
