What is/was on your plate for your main meal today?

I had fresh green beans so I cooked them along with ham and potatoes. One of my favorite meals. Skipped dessert. Do you mind sharing what you had today?

Absolutely nothing to brag about. I feel like we've done nothing but cook and eat, cook and eat (and of course clean up) since guests arrived from Croatia on the 8th. We're full, and we're tired ;0) Tonight was a down night, they are at my SIL's summer home 1 1/2 hours away last night (we drove up - to eat!) and tonight. Ham and eggs here, and I'm going to bed early.

This morning for breakfast I fried three red tomatoes and two green peppers the neighbor had given me, added some chopped onions, scrambled six eggs in a bowl and when the veggies were soft and tender, poured the egg mixture over it all and sprinkled with parsley. Threw in a handful of shredded cheddar cheese, salt and pepper. Let it cook until set and turned it once or twice. I have enough to reheat for tomorrow's bkfst or tonight's supper.

I watched the grand kids today. Left their place starving and exhausted so I stopped and ate in at a local Chinese restaurant. I had a combo plate of Mongolian beef with steamed rice and an egg roll. Frotune cookie for dessert. Iced tea for beverage.

Friends of ours had a 50th Anniversary party last night at the hunt club with about 85 people in attendance. The catered meal was sliced beef tenderloin with a horseradish sauce, chicken marbella, smashed potatoes, roast asparagus and roast carrot sticks. When dessert was brought out, I was talking to a couple who run a local winery and so got in line for dessert late, and just missed the last piece of chocolate pie, and the other two options of coconut cake and rhubarb cobbler didn't tempt me.

Mexican train, today, at my place. Shared, today: warm ham slices, smoked chicken thighs, broccoli salad, pasta salad., homemade pimento cheese and crackers. Friend's son made meringue cookies for us: vanilla, lemon and strawberry flavored. Delightful!

I made burger buns this morning so we had burgers cooked on the grill, with roasted potatoes, onion, sweet peppers. I have some chocolate chip cookies left over from a few weeks ago that were in the freezer so I made some ice cream sandwiches that I'll pass out soon. They haven't had a baked dessert in awhile as there dad dropped off mellons and other fruits.

Salmon on the grill; my version of rice pilaf; and steamed broccoli. I sure an good! The missus won't say that, I have to brag on my own.

Friday's lunch will have carrot soup.

Friday's evening repast will be chicken breasts topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella and I haven't decided what else.

Burgers and toppings, corn on the cob, potato salad, cantaloupe...love this time of the year with fresh produce from local gardens.

Went to the local golf course with a girl friend. They have a taco bar on Thursdays. It was very good. We went there for a brunch last Sunday. That was tasty too!

    Marylmi, Greenbush golf course!

I'm staying up till the late morning since I'm working night shift the next 3 nights. Just got home from a late movie with my daughter and went out in the dark to pick some okra. Got it and one of my summer squash in the toaster oven broiling right now. This will be my dinner.

Sweet and sour chicken and shrimp.

I made a shepherd's pie last night and somehow didn't think it had turned out very well. But we didn't eat it right away and when we did, it was delish! Paired it with a Greek salad, my favorite.

"...pick some okra." That sounds so impressive to me, Kathsgrdn! I have only once seen okra growing on vines when we were visiting relatives in Memphis and I was mesmerized. Hope it was good.

Today it's going to be fair food. I've already been told by a couple of locals that the corn dogs are hand dipped in a made from scratch batter...

I'm not motivated to cook. I'm thinking maybe some Popeye's chicken. It will be a treat since we rarely eat fried chicken.

Pizza hut...and this chopped Asian bagged salad from Costco that I cant stop eating...I've been eating it every night this week. It's like I crave it....could be worse things to crave right?

I bought the bagged chopped Asian salad from the produce section at Costco last week. It was the first time we had tried it. Two of my kids loved it. It looks like it can be made into a stir fry also. It's on the list for the next time I go back.

Tonight, turkey meatballs on vegetable rotini, jarred tomato sauce with some fresh grape tomatoes and chard from the garden thrown in, topped with a little cheese. I always have to watch how much cheese I throw on!

Last Sunday there was a food tasting event at the convention center called Flavored Nation, which purported to feature the "most iconic foods of each of the 50 states". My DD and I went but got there a little to late (just after 3:30) and many items were out. Still, we tasted many very good things and some that were just so-so. The shrimp gumbo (Louisiana) I thought was so-so (I have had better!); likewise the Marionberry (Oregon), sour cream/raisin (Kansas) and apple & cheddar (Vermont) pies -- but I will grant that it is not easy to make pastry desserts for a thousand people! I did like the flavor of the marionberries -- this was my first taste of them ever. The ham biscuits (Virginia) were way too salty for me.

The fried green tomatoes (Alabama, but made by a local chef I think) were really excellent; there was a smoked apple/pumpkin soup (New Hampshire) that was really good: the lamb chislic (South Dakota) was perfectly cooked but I didn't care for the heavily celery salted seasoning that was recommended with it; so was the cedar planked salmon (Washington); the bison meatballs (Wyoming) also very tasty. My DD loved the corn dog from Iowa and the Brats from Wisconsin (especially the bacon jam served with them). We both liked the spinach deep dish pizza (Illinois) and Kahlua Pig (Hawaii). The "tastes" were very generous, many were full servings, so no, we didn't eat all that at once! We were full after 5 tastes or so, so collected the rest in a box and took them home for dinner and breakfast and lunch on Monday.

There were several items that we had wanted to try but they were gone either before we got there or before we got around to them. I haven't named a few others that we did get to try, there were just so many! It was fun.

I had fried shrimp and watermelon. My husband said he was too tired to eat, so he only had some watermelon.

It Friday so we had blackened Cajun fish cooked in the cast iron on the grill, herbed long grain and wild rice, a mix of green beans and yellow wax beans a friend dropped off and fresh sliced tomato. Last of the grapes, 2pears, 1peach cut up and divided between boys and Amiee with enough left to go on my yogurt in the morning.

Girls sleepover tonight before school starts, so, the old standby, pizza!

Feeling tired after a busy week. Supper was a simple omelet with onion, cheese and tomato. I was surprised how delicious it was as I normally add more veggies and meat, but didn't get groceries today. I will make it again.

Dolly I rarely eat eggs, but when I do its an omelet with onion, sweet peppers and cheese.

Raee - that sounds like a great event. I'm from Vermont and I've never had apple pie with cheddar cheese. I like both but not together.

Our Friday dinner was a result of good neighboring and good gardening...both ways. Neighbor # 1 gave me some green beans, neighbor # 2 gave me cucumbers, neighbor # 3 brought over some tomatoes, Daughter brought over some just dug red skinned potatoes on Tuesday. So I had no choice but to go the store and buy a ham piece to cook with the beans and potatoes. Topped it all off by thawing a rhubarb cake that daughter had put in our freezer on Tuesday. Don't get no better than that!!

skibby, When I was nine, my parents owned a small restaurant in a small farming town about an hour or so north of where I live now. A customer one day, ordered a slice of apple pie with cheese on it, and my parents thought he was joking. Nope, he had to have that cheese on his pie. A few months later someone else came in and asked for the same pie with cheese, then proceeded to put ketchup on it too! I don't know where some people get these weird eating habits from. lol

I can see apple pie and cheese. Apple and cheese make a nice fruit platter, so why not?

I was on vacation, I think in one of the Disney restaurants years ago and I had apple pie, a wedge of cheddar cheese and black pepper vanilla ice cream.

Yes I have had fruit pies with a nice sharp cheese before: although it isn't the custom in this neck of the woods, I have heard that it is elsewhere. Plum tart is good with cheese also.

Today it was sloppy joes on home baked buns, left over grilled potatoes with onion and sweet peppers, and doctored up canned Bushs baked beans. I baked a yellow cake with buttercream frosting.

There are lots of tomatoes in our landlord's garden, and they told us to help ourselves, while they're away on holiday.

I made pasta with cherry tomatoes, minced jalapeño, asparagus and goat cheese.

Today we had zucchini pseudo lasagna. I sound like a broken record. We eat a lot of vegetables. There's no noodles in it. It's made of tons of vegetables layered with salsa and tomato sauce and cream cheese and regular cheese. That's it . . For a snack a little later on since I was still hungry I had Rye crackers that I dipped in salsa and yogurt. Both were delicious. Yes I love the spice and tang of salsa I admit it.

I will be having leftover teriyaki chicken from one of the Home Chef meals from last week.

Spicy Chickens wings and a salad. That was our lunch today. I'll probably have to eat something light for supper like a couple of Rye crackers with tuna, pickle, onion and pineapple.

It ALL sounds so good. Some great ideas for future meals here. I'm taking notes.

We had brunch at a new restaurant. I had crabcake eggs Benedict and home potatoes. It was excellent.
