I've been cooking all week. Son, DIL, and two grandkids visiting from California. They left this afternoon. There's plenty to eat in the fridge but I don't feel like anything. DH can help himself. I am TIRED! Glad you had such a lovely day Shirley. It was lovely here, too but I was too tired to really enjoy it. Tomorrow it is back to normal and am planning a day of golf with my lady friends.

We went out for supper tonight which we usually do on Friday nights. I had grilled salmon, mashed potatoes with brown gravy and fried okra and of course coffee. Brought home a piece of chocolate sin cake that hubby and I will split later.

Fridays are always pizza night but last night I got a craving for bisquits and gravy so that's what I made.

Ahhhh, a gorgeous day today. Went from temps in the high 30's C (90's) all this week to a comfortable 21C (70F). Now I can breathe again, and not shower twice/day.

Tonite was Pasta Puttanesca. (Ladies of the Night) pasta. No idea why it's called that, but it's fast, easy and delicious.

That's why it's called Pasta Puttanesca......fast and easy.

Jasdip - our temps did the same. Are you in Ontario? Toronto often has the same weather we do, just less snow.

Tonight we ate various things, some of which we didn't recognize, at the 45th annual Puerto Rican Festival in Rochester, NY. We went because my friend's daughter - my daughter's close friend - was dancing with a troupe that does Latino and traditional Puerto Rican dances. We tried alcapurria, bacalaito, arroz con gandules, fried plantain, cheese empanada, and arepa. Yummy, and I didn't have to cook a thing.

I made smoked pork chops and a rice dish with vegetables in it and some field peas with snaps.

ginny- did the patacones comes with hogao? My brother was dating a girl from Columbia and she taught us how to make patacones (fried plantain) with hogao sauce. Tasty!!! I don't know if Puerto Ricans eat hogao but I do know that fried plantain is a staple in that region of the world. Your meal sounds delicious!!!

Jasdip, lol....I was absolutely being silly, but it turns out that the history behind the colorful name is murky, at best. All of the many stories go pretty much down the same path...it's fast and easy!

We babysat for the two little girls who live next door with their grandfather, our much loved neighbor. He had his first date in the many years since his dear wife died! These little girls have real separation anxiety issues and this was the first time that he had left them at night since he took them into his home.

I fixed 'breakast for dinner'; pancakes made to order, ham sausage patties, scrambles eggs, and fresh fruit.

I let them pick out their pancake ingredients from little bowls of chocolate chips, chopped apple, blueberries, peanut butter, nuts, apricot preserves, and strawberry jam. Just one pancake each, but they really loved their whole supper.

Texas - No, these were whole plantains, fried, with a slit in them filled with cheese. They had the regular fried plantains, too. But I didn't see hogao on any of the menus.

Rhizo: With that WONDERFUL breakfast buffet-for-dinner -- and they got to choose the ingredients? -- I wonder if they came back the next day! That was really creative of you.
