Help needed choosing an accent color for our kitchen
Comments (64)OK- I will work on all of this. Honestly I had my mom (who has a good eye) over today and we went through some options and I got more paint swatches. First of all now that I looked at more real yellows I can see where you are getting beige from the swatches I posted earlier today. At first I was thinking- beige? They seem clearly yellow to me. BUT now that I have 7-8 strips of yellow the others DO look beige. And it's interesting how you pick a color you think is good but then when you put another next to it it TOTALLY changes it to a different color! Talking through it with Mom, I think it will be a good idea to go in one direction or another. I was trying to kind of have a little of everything and realized it will all be muddled if I don't have a clear direction going here! In my very first post I love the dark brown cab with the original glazed cab. But, looking at the yellows, the brown wasn't working as well. Not horrible but not ideal. I think I'm going to go for it and do the yellow (like the new inspiration pic) and put a lot of white with it - still with walnut island maybe- and some black accents. I have a black cabinet sample that actually was much more exciting than the espresso with the yellows. : ) I'm so excited. I really love this and think it may work out! Wait til I show the decorator. It's quite different from my original plan. I think she'll like it too. My mom said she was surprised it was less formal than I usually like but I love it and think it will serve my house well. I think still keeping the arch window from my original inspiration picture (not on this thread) and my lights we can work it out I must take one of the lights out of the boxes b/c I want to see what the real color is. Hopefully they are not totally out of place with this new idea. If so, tell me and I'll see if I can return them. I REALLY love them and they were pricey so I hope it can work. Don't want to force it though : ) OK, thanks so much for your help! I love when I get responses as I'm a bit OCD about all of this (as I think most of us here are!)...See MoreHelp! Comments (2)I almost pasted in your photo so everyone didn't have to go the link route, but I noticed all your photos are © all rights reserved. So I didn't. That's a smart thing to do by the way, ©. Your screen door is very smart looking. There are a lot of doodads out front: the flower on the door, the big pot of plants, the flag. If you get a new color on the door that you love, I wonder if there will be less doodads and decoration. :~D I can think of one color for the door. It's a red, but it is a very warm red. "Warm" red is a big clue that it is an orange-y-er red. I know you don't want "orange" but the bricks are going to dictate to a great extent the color choices. Also, you don't want the door color to blend any more, like the current color. So, to get that punch you're likely lookin' at some flavor of red. Ben Moore's Caliente would be the first chip/sample I'd check out. Another idea to play with is something like a mid-value golden yellow. Again, due to the brick you'll have to get the *right* golden yellow, but it is another color option that will pop and not blend....See MoreMat color for vintage prints? (pics)
Comments (23)For those of you that read my previous thread about painting my dining room black you may remember that I took on that project in April. Since then I have painted the study across the hall gray and made 8 (well 6 of 8) curtain panels. I completed the art work for the study and am now waiting on a new light fixture and paint for the ceiling in that room before calling it complete. In the meantime, I needed to get back to the DR since I've had these prints on hold while I found frames and mats. I don't seem to be able to move as quickly as I'd like. caminnc, I used the Ben Moore Aura in a matte finish in this room. I still really like it but the drapes aren't playing as well with the paint color as I'd hoped. The silk fabric I ended up going with was beautiful in the little swatch but is actually rather boring against the wall. The prints are on the wall opposite the windows which is making it very difficult to photograph as they are getting direct sunlight. The room is coming together. I still need accessories and want to paint the ceiling either slate blue or olive green, both are in the drapes and the prints. Here are some more pics of the room.... These prints are by the same artist in ready made frames (which included mats) from Michaels. I plan to change out these mats too at some point. Here are the drapes. The colors are pretty much true to life.... And another angle......See MoreHELP! Need help choosing Trim Color.
