wow, finally got rid of the soap scum on the shower door!
Comments (30)Am I the only one who hasn't had success with the Dawn and vinegar? Our tub has build-up from the previous tenant who was elderly and took baths. The tile was spotless, because of the baths, but the tub bottom is rough. On the other hand, that's good for no slippage! I first saw the dawn and vinegar 6 months ago, and I see no difference in the tub and tiles. I can't get the taps clean, they have water spots. Funny, we have soft water too. The smell is very strong, I keep the door closed and the window open and it lingers in the apartment. Also there's no need to heat the vinegar from what I've read. I heated it once but not since. Comments (36)I understand that some water systems supply very hard water. Ours is at the medium point but I myself would never have a water softener installed. I hate the feeling that softened water produces, of being unable to rinse off soap and shampoo when showering. And making the shower floor slippery. We once bought a house that had a water softener installed. The seller had commented that the water in that area was very hard. I activated the bypass after a week and then had it removed. Some hotels have overly soft water too. I make a mental note of those so that I can stay elsewhere on any return visit to the area. Hard water can often taste better to drink because various minerals contribute to the flavor. Some water bottlers add minerals to the product for that very reason. Try drinking distilled water sometime, it's tasteless and not very enjoyable. The spring water we buy to drink is loaded with minerals and is very flavorful. Ditto regarding resurrecting old threads. Better to start a new conversation if the old one is getting moldy....See MoreHow do you get soap scum off a shower door?
Comments (5)Try this recipe it works! I found this DIY cleaner on here and here and it is fantastic because it works! Here's the recipe: 8 oz. (1 cup) of warm vinegar 8 oz. ( 1 cup) of Dawn That's it! I put the vinegar in the microwave for about two minutes to get it warm. Then mix the vinegar and the Dawn in a spray bottle. One cup of Dawn seems like a lot to me, but I guess you need that much to cut through the scum. It makes sense. If it can cut through grease and baked on food, it should be able to cut through yucky shower scum! I sprayed the Dawn and vinegar mixture on the glass and scrubbed with a sponge. I really didn't have to scrub hard or for very long. That stubborn stuff came right off! I had a bucket of clean water to wipe off the soap suds. When I was done, there still seamed to be a little bit of residue on the glass so I just used the glass cleaner I usually use to give the doors a final wipe. Now my shower doors look as good as new!...See MoreSoap Scum Nightmare
Comments (14)I had the same problem in my “new” home. Tried every single trick out there. Bought all types of products. Soaked it with vinegar. I don’t believe you will ever remove it, sorry to say. It is the hard water stains that etched it. Our solution was to replace the doors and get the protective film put on it. We’ve had them for 7 years and no problem but we religiously wipe them down after every shower. The protectant can be reapplied every 6 months and we do that too....See Morejellytoast
