Privacy tree recommendations - Emerald Cedars are SLOW!!!

Dale

Hi,

About 5 years ago we planted some emerald cedars along the back fence for some privacy. We were told to space them out every 3-4 feet when planting. There is also a maple at the corner of the lot that we want to keep but which seems to limit the growing of the cedars.

The 3 bigger ones in the middle have survived all 5 years but the others have had to be replanted over the years. I suspect I was not watering them enough to support their initial rooting.

At present I have planted climbing hydrangeas to possibly fill out the space between the cedars but those won't help get the cedars higher.

To be honest, I am getting a bit impatient with theses trees and thinking of a few other options:

- Eastern white cedars

- Green giant cedars

Any thoughts on these options? I am in zone 5b.

Many thanks,

Dale.
