No never heard of it. I have Samsung front loaders, there's a special place in the detergent cup area to put bleach in. I pour small amounts into it slowly, close the drawer and it does its thing. Maybe you should pour a few cups of water in the bleach dispenser after you use it.

Is this your new Duets? I have new Duets too and have not found this too be true. Are you using too much bleach perhaps?

The bleach dispenser may be blocked and only dribbles of bleach can pass through, so some may remain in the dispenser even though you haven't added any more. I'd do a couple of washes adding hot water in the bleach dispenser.

No never. I'd never used a bleach dispenser, preferring to add some after the clothes had washed in detergent a few minutes - adding manually to the tub, myself.

With this particular washer (3 yr old Maytag Bravos XL), I do use the dispenser. Or fight the lid lock ;0) It seems to work as designed, none is left and no bleach scent in the machine when the load is done.

You might ask over in the laundry room thread which is quite active. We have had splatters on our clothing but that was back many years ago when we added fabric softener to the wash. We don't do that any more.

Yes, I had that happen once. But it was only a couple of loads later. I had used my bleach dispenser as well. That happened with my old washer. I have a new washer now. So far it hasn't happened again. I rarely use bleach though.

I edited to add..on the rare occasion I do use bleach I run the machine through an empty cycle before washing anything else because of what I had happen once.

Thank you missy! This is an apartment washer and management here assumes that I have truly lost it and claims it could not possibly happen. Therefore I am out one pair of slacks, two jackets and other clothing splattered with bleach spots because they won't believe me and refuse to reimburse me.

This same washer was cleared by management's maintenance person of open safety pins and trash that tore an article of my clothing, so I continue to believe that these things do happen. Thank you again.

I've had some issues like that back when I used dryer sheets. They can cause a lot of problems.

I have difficulty believing it's leftover bleach in the machine for one simple reason: If it's coming from the bleach dispenser, the water should be diluting it so it shouldn't be spots. If anything it should fairly evenly lighten all the clothes in there assuming it's a high enough concentration to overpower the water dilution. Somehow the bleach, if it's bleach, seems like it would be getting on there not only after the wash cycle but also after the rinse cycle and even after the spin it would seem for it to damage only in spots. I assume the clothes are left alone in the room and you're not there with it. I suspect some mischief or an accidental spill in or on the machine are far more believable cause potentials than a machine malfunction. or if you set the clothes on a counter or top of the machine that may have had a chemical spill where it could pick up the problem. Do you use liquid fabric softener or dryer sheets? There are some very real candidates for problems too.

And the machines are there and used at your own risk so naturally the management is not going to reimburse you for the clothes. There's probably a disclaimer in your lease/rental agreement and possibly even a caution sign in the room or on the machines.

FWIW, to properly use bleach you need to wait a while and let the detergent do its thing before adding bleach. That's the reason for a bleach dispenser. If you add bleach with the detergent, you kill any enzymes in the detergent and according to many it essentially kills the cleaning power of the detergent too so it's a waste of money to put the detergent in there at all in that case.

Clorox website suggests if you're concerned about bleach carryover that you stage your loads by doing whites first, then lights, and finally darks. So they're not exactly saying it's impossible.

Like I said, I did have this happen with my older washer. I assumed it was a malfunction of some sort. No problems so far with the new one.

Once in a while I find a spot on a piece of clothing that looks like it's had a run in with bleach. I wondered if it was some that had lingered on the seal around the door of my front loader? So, I do the exact opposite of what missymay wrote that clorox recommends. I always wash my darks first, then lights, then whites. That's if it's been several days since I washed a bleach load, figuring any bleach left in or on the machine will have evaporated. No problems since I started doing this. If I am unsure, I'll wash a load of lights that don't need bleaching before I do darks.

Since I have experienced the dilemma more than once, it is easy for me to know without a doubt that bleach carryover can happen and does happen! Anyone who has never known/seen this unhappy experience and still determines the occurance is impossible is not helping those of us who, unfortunately, know better.

Of course bleach carryover can happen. If your using a bleach dispenser and it doesn't release the bleach into the load . Its possiable for the dispenser to malfunction and release the bleach into a different load. I can't see how there would be carryover using a traditional top loader. The bleach would be manually added to the wash cycle at the end of the cycle and than the machine will spin out and fill at least once with rinse water than another spin...how would it be carried over?

This is an apartment complex owned washer that is located in your unit or in a laundry room that others have access to also? Any possibility of getting your own machines that you could strictly control?

Actually Clorox recommends the staging of loads only if your concerned. They also say there should be no bleach carryover after a spin, rinse, and final spin.
